Kelly's Caribbean Bar, Grill & Brewery. We said a temporary goodbye to Key West this afternoon as we treked north to pick up "the mammas" (a.k.a. Linda and Elizabeth) at Orlando International Airport. They were to depart Providence at 7:50pm and arrive Orlando at 10:50pm. We could hardly wait. As a matter of fact we had continplated having them FedEx'd to us, but my mom would be upset at the cost, so we opted for budget friendly Southwest Airlines! :-)
When we awoke in Key West it was another PERFECT DAY. One of the most uplifting feelings (to me) is opening a window (in this case a screen door to a private balcony) to see a brilliant sunny day, feel a cool breeze, and hear the rustling of tree palms blowing in the wind. I sat at the desk, did some work, and wrote a blog all while taking small breaks just to "smell the flowers" --literarlly. I can't believe some people get to wake up to this view, weather, smells, every morning!
We checked out of the resort by 11:30am and proceeded to Kelly's Caribbean Bar, Grill and Brewery for lunch. This restaurant, owned by actress Kelly Mcgilis (Top Gun fame) is gorgeous! It

Kelly's Caribbean Bar, Grill & Brewery. is located in the old Pam American Airlines building. It is funky in an Indiana Jones sort of way. There is indoor and my personal fave -- outdoor seating. The outside court has these funky wooden tables spread out and huge 1920's rustic looking fan's. There are red spot lights and little white xmas lights hanging up. This court must look beautiful at night! The outside seating basically surrounds the enormous bar (which is made partially from a plane...how cool)! They also brew their own beer. Always look for the free local newspapers/magazines/coupon booklets. You can usually find a coupon that will give you a FREE beer or well drink or a sample of some of their microbrews. The menu (we only saw lunch -- they are open for dinner as well) is very nice and typical "Keys" lunch fare. They had their chicken, fish and burger staples. Since it was "chicken appretiation day" (seriously -- I couldn't make that up if I tried) April had the jerk chicken wrap and I, of course, had a burger (so rebelaint I tell you...lol). Both were very good.
After lunch, as we were walking back to our car (branded with the

April and I did a bit of "strolling" ourselves, only in a CAR! We had to GET ON THE ROAD and GET THE MAMMAS! WOO-HOO!! Ape and I are SO excited for them to see Destin and the Keys. They aren't going to believe the sights.
The drive up the Florida Turnpike was pretty uneventful. In roughly 7 hours we were checking into our hotel (Springhill Suites - Marriott Village - Lake Buena Vista) and headed out to pick THE MOMS up! They were scheduled to arrive 10:50pm. I almost had a heart-attack when I noticed there were two calls from them (April had left her phone in the car). Before we had a chance to listen to the messages the phone rang again -- I thought for sure their plane was hijacked and they were called to say goodbye (seriously -- this is why I am such a worry freak). To make a long story short -- they got

Only in Key West! This Mr. Cockles is looking for his brood. on an earlier flight out of Providence and arrived Orlando sooner than expected --- YAAY! Their luggage won't be there until today (Monday), but since they have to pick their car up anyway that is no problem.
It felt so good having them with us. What would've really completed the feeling would've been the cats and dogs being here as well (boy do I miss them). I guess I will have to call them Thumpy (or Mitzy, Fajizzles, Bing or Speck) once in a while? 😊 LOL!!
All hungry, we decided to stop for dinner at Bahama Breeze located in the plaza we were staying. This place was "hopping" for a Sunday night. A steel-drum/calypso band was playing it was awesome. We all had a small dinner and then returned to our hotel for the night -- which brings me to this morning -- May 1st.
We are driving to Destin, FL today for 3 nights. We are staying at The Pelican Beach Resort. I am dreaming of that emerald water and snow white sand.....ahhh....Destin, here we come!
Until then...
Happy Travels!
