Valentine’s Day then an Air Boat Ride
Yesterday was a rainy day, our first since I arrived several weeks ago. It was actually refreshing to hear the drops on the camper and smell the air with so much moisture. Oscar and I hunkered down in the camper all morning, watched tv, read a book, straightened up a little and just relaxed. We had plans for dinner, there is a meal at 5 and then dancing in the rec hall for Valentine’s Day. We were served stuffed chicken breast, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, a delightful roll and a red velvet cupcake, all for $8. Then the music started, a d j , playing the oldies. There were lots of people dancing and we were singing, a great time had by all.
Today dawned rainy again but with a promise to clear by 10 or 11am. We made plans to go on an air boat ride but waited and extra hour to make sure it would clear up, it was chilly, 58 degrees.
We left about 11:15 and an hour later we were at the dock ready to ride. We signed up for the
45 min ride and we were on a smaller boat then the others, only 6 passengers. It was really informal, just get on and sit. Ginnie gave us ear protectors, no comment from the driver, and off we went. It was a thrill to skim across the water especially when it was covered with grass. We saw a baby alligator, about 2 ft. long, then another one, bigger, maybe another year older.
There were cattle grazing in the water, along with the water birds, ducks and alligators. We saw a kite, a rare bird like a hawk, swamp hawks and bald eagles. There were flocks of ducks all over and our driver just couldn’t resist the urge to run after them. The poor ducks ran across the water flapping like crazy trying to take off and most succeeded but a few didn’t and they swam under the water to avoid the boat. Our driver was a real “good ol boy”. I couldn’t believe how fast the time was up and we headed back to the dock, not before he drove us through a real thick bunch of grasses covered with bugs. He really got his jollies watching us swat
away.
On the way home we just had to stop for ice cream, it was delicious. We were home in 50 min and for me it was walk the dog then get ready for dinner. It was my turn to cook so I planned to make tilapia, fried rice, broccoli with cheese sauce, and sour dough bread. It turned out to be delicious, and ready right on time. I don’t have enough room for the 3 of us to eat inside so if dinner got too late it would have been too cold to eat outside. We had cocktails in the warm setting sun and dinner as the light was just starting to fade.
We were all tired from our busy day so Kat and Ginnie went home and I settled in to clean the dishes. Maybe tomorrow.
It is going to be cold tonight, freeze watches in effect so everybody is moaning. It will warm up tomorrow but then really cold tomorrow night. Close up the windows tonight!
