I wake up in the middle of the night, freezing. It’s 50 degrees inside; don’t know what it was outside. Ken throws a blanket on me and we fall back asleep.
We didn’t wake up until 8:30…the latest so far. Must be the cool air. We are drinking our lattes outside. We see a deer in the bushes.
The same little boy we saw yesterday is dancing…maybe I should do that!!
It’s a beautiful day; think we’ll skip breakfast and head out.
We drove up to the top of the park and got lunch at the restaurant up there. There was a tour bus full of senior citizens stopping for lunch too. Fortunately we beat them to the line. Then we took the hike to see some of the ruins.
On the hike, we saw the same family we saw at Ken’s Old West restaurant in Page, AZ. Weird. The hike to see the ruins was pretty crowded since it is free. Other ruins require a tour guide.
After the hike we drive around. The park sits on top of the mountains, beautiful views.
We decide to go in to town (Cortez) to do laundry. We need a few things
from the store anyway.
We pull in to the Laundromat parking lot and it is a hopping place. It’s also right next to a liquor store. How convenient! I do need some more Pear Grey Goose.
Ken takes a few pictures of the locals here. I think Laundromats are interesting places. I like to watch people to see what kind of stuff they have, how they fold it, etc. One guy pulls his clothes out of the washer and skips the dryer all together. He just folds everything up wet. I see another woman do the same and it dawns on me they are going to go home and hang them outside to dry. Another guy ties his socks up in knot.
We finish and go to the liquor store to get some ice and vodka.
We get back to camp for happy hour. The door handle broke on the RV and a few days ago. Ken was going to get a washer to fix it but forgot. So….he took a cap from a Heineken beer and made one. See the picture. It looks so classy! His West Virginia roots always shine through.
As I am fixing dinner, some children
come by the campsite. They are playing exploring games, catching grasshoppers, etc. Ken makes friends with them; they ask him questions, etc. I look out once and he is teaching Davin and Dakota how to tell if a knife is sharp. He takes their pictures. Davin asks him what is all the stuff on the table~~it’s Ken’s tackle box supplies that he is cleaning. Dakota is handicapped. Davin has collected a whole container of grasshoppers~he tells me he is going to eat them.
We eat dinner and I also make egg sandwiches for tomorrow’s breakfast. We have to get up early because we are going on a ½ day river rafting trip.
I go to blog; Ken has to clean up the kitchen.
