Chicken Anyone ?
This is the restaurant at Knott's Berry where we had the fried chicken and biscuits. Mmmmmmmm Good !! Today was another very exciting but exhausting day for the four of us. As if walking around Disney wasn't enough, we promised the girls we would take them to Knott's Berry Farm Amusement Park. For those of you who are not familiar with this park, it is the equivalent to our Six Flags. The girls were really excited because it had a lot more of the BIG roller coasters and rides that Disney didn't really offer. It catered to the older crowd (14 - 25) but unfortunately not the elderly like Tim and I. We started the day off with our normal routine and then headed down California 57 to Knott's Berry. Grandma Peggy had called me a few days before and told me that we had to wait and eat at the park because they had the best fried chicken and homemade biscuits in the world. So, that's exactly what we did and she was so right ! We smothered our hot biscuits with fresh Knott's Berry jelly (four flavors to choose from, Grape (my favorite), Strawberry, Orange and Boysenberry) and a dollop of butter. They just melted in your mouth they were so fresh and hot !! Tim and
The Candy Parlour !
Tim thought this was cute and he wanted my picture under the sign !! It should be more like the Cookie Parlour !! Emily said the fried chicken was really good and Kayla enjoyed her soup and salad. I had the chicken pot pie and it was wonderful. We bought Daddy Jack and Grandma Peggy some boysenberry jelly and biscuit mix so we can continue to enjoy this treat once we get back home. The girls and I headed over to the ticket booth while Tim took all the goodies back to the car. After the 45 minute drive and eating, it was already around 12:00 so we took off and started riding. The first roller coaster, The Sierra Sidewinder, was really cool because it had rotating seats which made for a very different type of ride. You actually turned in circles at 37 miles per hour while you were riding through the loops and turns. Tim decided that his chicken hadn't quite digested enough to try this one so he watched and took pictures as the girls and I jumped on for the ride. I have never really cared much for roller coasters but I thought I would at least try them today so I could enjoy some time with Kayla. She always tells me that "I'm boring" and never take risks,
America's First Theme Park !
The entrance to Knott's Berry's Amusement Park !! so I thought this would be a great time to prove her wrong ! You know, cause roller coasters are soooooo dangerous and wild and all !! After the rotating roller coaster we quickly headed over to the next adventure. We jump on the Montezooma's Revenge like we were all pros. This coaster started off going from 0 mph to 55 mph in just 3 seconds. Then, when it was finished going forwards you had to get back by doing the same thing backwards. It was very fast and exciting and the girls said they really liked it because there wasn't anything like it at Six Flags. Next, we were finally able to get Tim on a ride, so he joined us on the Ghostrider. This rickety looking thing is 118 feet tall and is one of the largest and longest WOODEN roller coasters in the world. After the initial 108 foot drop, our heads didn't stop banging around until the very end !! Tim said this was the kind of roller coaster he grew up on but I'm thinking that my head is telling me there's a really good reason why they don't build them out of wood anymore
Kayla & Emily Waiting in Line !
Waiting in line for one of the big coasters ! !!! It was getting kinda hot, somewhere around 85, so we all decided it was time to get wet !! First, we headed over to what would be the equivalent to our Thunder River, and we all rode it together. It was a lot shorter than Thunder River and we didn't really get all that wet, so we headed over to the Perilous Plunge. There was no doubt that you would get soaked on this ride so Tim decided to watch from afar. I'm sure he was laughing really hard as we plunged 115 feet, in our boats, into a large pool of ice cold water ! Let's just say it was exhilarating !! Well, we got our wishes, we were cooled off now and so it was time to head over to another roller coaster called the Jaguar. The girls wanted the front seats so they got in the first car and we had to wait for the next one. Tim and I got in our car and little did we know we would be stuck in it for over 20 minutes !! Just as we were approaching the end of the ride, it broke down !! I'm thinking,
Girls on the Bench !
Kayla & Emmy posing with the two flapper ladies ! as they come over the intercom and announce that there's a problem, this is not a great way to overcome my roller coaster fears. We have to sit there, in the sun, squished in this little cart, with the backpack, for what seemed like an eternity. Finally, we were back up and running and we got the heck off of the Jaguar ! Poor Emily and Kayla, they were at the bottom of the ride, walking around for twenty minutes trying to figure out where in the world we were at. Well, we continued on throughout Knott's Berry, with our faithful map, and rode every single roller coaster there and I can now say with confidence that I am no longer afraid of roller coasters. However, this doesn't mean that I'm going to be heading off to Six Flags anytime soon !!! Tim, Kayla, Emily and I had such a wonderful, carefree, exciting and fun-filled day, but we were all exhausted. Somewhere around 9:30 p.m we went through the gift shop for a couple of souvenirs and then headed out to the car. I must have fell asleep on the ride home because the next thing I remember was waking
Hang On !!
This is the roller coaster that had the rotating seats !! up at the motor home and crawling into bed.
