Grand Canyon
Hiking down into the canyon We woke up at the crack of dawn and slowly got ready to head down to the lookout point where we were last night and watch the sunrise. It was freezing cold and some of the girls from our group brought their sleeping bags, fantastic idea, it was that cold. The sunrise was beautiful despite the freezing cold. It was an amazing sight seeing the sun rise over the Grand Canyon. Afterwards he drove down to a lodge to have breakfast, when we arrived there were deer hanging around outside the lodge eating grass. We took some close up photos and headed in for some food. We sat inside and ate a nice hot breakfast to keep us warm and awake. We finished our breakfast and left the lodge to go for a hike down into the Grand Canyon. This was going to be a tough hike, it was very steep, very rocky and had designated rest areas where you could stop for water. As we walked down we were passing many signs warning us that is was an optional hike down, mandatory hike up.
It took us a while to get down to the bottom but we were rewarded

The way down to Plateau Point with fantastic views of the top. But even though we had hiked so far, we were still high above the Colorado River which cut through the canyon below. You can do that hike but it takes a few hours more, plus the climb back up was going to be bad enough from here let alone another few hours downhill. We took some photos and stopped to have some snacks which we brought with us then begun the difficult hike back to the top. Going back up took much longer than coming down and it was very difficult. We were stopping frequently to eat trail mix and drink lots of water so we wouldn’t have the problem we did back in Yosemite. We took it mile by mile and slowly but surely we made it back to the top, it was a huge hike. Dave and I made it up first and went to the café to get some more substantial food than trail mix full of M&M’s peanuts and sultana’s. Slowly the rest of the group started to show up. For the rest of the afternoon we hung around having a look around the top of the Grand Canyon. I

Made it finally to Plateau Point went for a walk around with Hannah then we went to find some phones to call back home.
After a lengthy chat to our folks we caught up with the rest of the group who were waiting by the van and we headed off to yet another lookout point to watch yet another sunset. Jon brought plenty of pizza and soft drink so we sat stuffing ourselves while watching the sun go down behind the canyon. We returned to the campsite and met up with a couple of guys from the first half of the tour. Both of the trek group met at the ten pin bowling centre and we spend the night drinking and bowling with the occasional video game in the other room. We later went back to the campsite and had a late night drinking and chatting around the warm campfire. It was another freezing cold night, as we went to bed we filled out Nalgene bottles to keep us warm
