So, get this. We were told when we should get back because the program ends then, and so do (supposadly) all of our classes. So, anyway, it turns out to be a lit (at least for my classes) because they all (except one, set up by the program) end A MONTH before I´m supposed to come home. That means that (taking out spring break) I only have six more weeks of classes. (WHAT?! Didn´t I just start them? I thought so....Maybe I missed something). So that last month is going to be odd, what with only having class on Friday mornings. So weird. There are a lot of holidays too, so it´s not even like I´m actually in classes for all of the six weeks. Something seems extremely odd here.... Oh well, I suppose that´s the ... read more

Bendiciones a Tulum, su intensa brisa, ... read more

So yesterday I went to Uxmal. For those of you who don´t know it´s an archaeological site (you know, mayan pyramids and whatnot) Anyway, it´s a postclassic site (like pretty much everything in the Yucatan) and is pretty different from all of the other sites I´ve seen. Mostly because there aren´t a whole lot of pyramids--mostly it´s a bunch of buildings with rooms inside. This is pretty unusual, and the buildings are really nice. Another reason it´s different from the others I´ve been to is that it´s barely excavated. There are three main plazas that are, but if you wander off into the woods (which we did) you see whole (very, very big) pyramids that haven´t been touched. They look like big hills with rocks all over them, because they´re covered in plants. So the site ... read more

26th January 2008: You never know when something is waiting for you at the next corner. Beach life! I am not a beach person, but after 12 days continuosly in adventure, a beach life was exactly what I needed. I should admit very low expectatives about Cancun, lot of tourists, toned and fit people, expensive and light conversations about life..if you find someone to talk to. And, life always surprising me....someone in Chile told me that "Isla Mujeres is a place where things happens".....and you know, everywhere I matched my soulmates. Honestly, Isla Mujeres has a pure energy, in front of Cancun you can crossed here by boat. You could enjoy when sunrises at the southern part of the island (very early, too early for night beaches parties) and also beautiful sunset, the sun desappears behind ... read more

Ok, so I feel like I´ve been neglecting you guys a little bit lately, but I really don´t mean to. Here´s the thing: Remember when I got that intestinal infection? Well, I missed four classes and got REALLY behind on my work, so I´ve pretty much been reading/writing 24/7 lately. Prime example: it´s 5:45 am and I just got done writing a paper, but I have class at 8 am, which means I have to wake up in 45 minutes. As a 45 minute nap is useless, I´m using 20 minutes of it to write to you guys so I can have a twenty minute nap before six hours of classes before coming home and taking a nap. When I wake up from the nap, though, I have to read/write a 2 page response to about ... read more

Ok, so the bus system. It occured to me that I haven´t told you guys about the bus system yet. It´s awesome. You can get from anywhere in the city to anywhere in the city on buses. Kind of like the NYC subway system. Only there´s one problem. There´s no map. And no signs. You just have to magically know where to go to get the bus and which bus to take to go where. So it´s great if you know that, but if not, you´re sort of screwed. Ok, the apology. I don´t know when I´m going to be able to put up the pictures of Chichen Itza and Carnaval. In order to do it I need to take my laptop to the park where there´s free wireless, but I have to go at night ... read more

Sorry I haven´t written in over a week guys, but as you can tell by my title I´ve been a little busy (and a little bedridden). So Carnaval. It wasn´t nearly as crazy as I expected. Given that it´s the five-day equivalent of Mardi Gras, I figured it would be a SUPER crazy party and that I wouldn´t like it. But it wasn´t like that at all. First of all, there were parades. Now, parades in Mexico are a LITTLE different than parades in the US, but not significantly. The theme of Carnaval this year was the New Seven Wonders of the World (remember that contest they had this year): Chichen Itza, Petra, Macchu Picchu, El Cristo (kind of a lame wonder if you ask me--it´s a giant statue of Jesus. Jesus is cool and all, ... read more
