Disclosure: Do not take my blog entries too seriously. I'm attempting to lace them with a little humor. This one isn't funny. Not feeling too good. Veracruz. A big bustling city located on the east central part of Mexico off the Gulf coast. It has a port where imports and exports are handled. Although I didn't see much action when I cruised by the harbor a few times. They might have been taking their siestas. The water on this side of the coast did not entice me to go for a swim. Kind of murky. The sand on the beaches are of grey color. Coming from Tulum I was spoiled. No swimming for me here. No tanks. A little history about the city. Did you know that the U.S. attacked Veracruz on 1847 and then again ... read more

Day 346 - Wednesday 10 September The bus had taken four hours longer than it was supposed to and we didn´t arrive into Veracruz until 1:30 pm, 23 hours after setting off. Luckily the football wasn´t starting until 2pm so we just had enough time to find somewhere that would show it. It was right at the start of my trip that England last played Croatia in the euro qualifiers, and i´d stayed up in a Bangkok bar until 6am to watch that dreadful game much to the glea of some Irish blokes in there. It was good to get some revenge. Once the game had finished I only had a couple of hours to pass until my next bus was due to leave. So after getting something to eat there was no time for any ... read more

Well hello! It´s ages since I´ve updated you all and for all those hanging on the edges of their seats I´m very sorry! Since I last updated not a lot, and quite a lot has happened! Firstly and most importantly we went to Veracruz for the weekend. Friday started out well enough, with beautiful blue skies (well we are in Mexico!) and pink blamanche for breakfask, and what´s more COLD MILK!!!!!! It took me quite a few mouthfulls to realise why my coco pops tasted better than usual I can tell you! I even had a bit more milk just on its own in my bowl afterwards to savor the cold milk-ness. So after all that excitement we went and taught our 2 classes in Santa Domingo and made a quick get away to Mexico to ... read more

I have been terrible about writing in this blog! But finally I will describe thewonderful weekend that I had (now almost 2 weeks ago) Liz and her boyfriend Nick came to visit, they arrived on Friday, the 22nd of Feb. On Saturday we headed to Veracruz, Veracruz which is the closest beach to Puebla, only a little over 3 hours in the bus. Veracruz is a very important port city in Mexico and there is a naval bas there and other cool things to see. Veracruz is on the Atlantic Ocean and many people say that it is ¨fea¨meaning ugly, especially compared to the other beaches in Mexico, but I will tell you it is definetly nicer than what I´m used to! We arrived at 12 pm and as soon as we stepped out of the ... read more

VeracruzThis morning we went to the fortress of San Juan de Ulúa in the port of Veracruz. It was an old Spanish command post situated on the port entrance. When it was used, it served as a home to presidents, military headquarters and prison. Much of the fortress was constructed with coral rock and has bridges that connect different areas. It reminded me of a fortress from 'The Pirates of the Caribbean'. From there we went to a public middle school where we met with teachers and students. It was a great time to tour the school, see it facilities, and learn about a segment of the school system. The best part was that we went to lunch in a city called Boca del Rio, with the teachers and students, and really had chance to talk ... read more

VeracruzToday was a slower day than usual. After beakfast we headed to the Zempoala's archeological site to see some very interresting ruins. They were not as large as other sites, but still great to see. For one reason or another, we were not allowed to climb on the ruins as you are in other places. Then we went to Chachalacas beach to walk, eat and swim on the beach. Nice to day to reflect on our trip so far.

Empezo a llover muy fuerte ... read more

Good morning! Or should I say "Buenos Dias" Our day began by meeting in the hotel lobby. We boarded our bus and began the day - first, we visited La Universidad Anahuac where we met up with another friend of Omaha, Maria Luisa. La Universidad Anahuac is a small, private Catholic university with a student body population of approximately 750 students at the Xalapa campus. La Universidad Anahuac in Xalapa is part of system of Anahuac universities throughout Mexico. The staff at the university gave us a tour of their campus followed by a breakfast overlooking their beautiful land. We got to hear first hand about some of the exciting research that is currently being undertaken by the faculty to create economic development indexes in order to create model programs to help eliminate poverty and ... read more
