Our first stop: Isla Mujeres: (island of women)
We are staying in a really nice and funky hostel on the beach (Poc Na) on this very backpacker island (plenty of Americans during the day too although most just come over for the day from the Cancun resorts)....very colourful houses and the backpackers we´ve met are much more international than in Cancun. Most are also surprised to hear we actually spent two nights in Cancun..most have come here straight from the airport, or are just ending their trip here...and don´t spend a night in Cancun at all.
Our first full day was planned out carefully, breakfast, and a full day at the beach..(yes again). We still can´t really believe how clear the water is and how idyllic everything looks (see pictures...sorry, next time we will have pictures that look like we´re not on a package holiday). From a beach bar we listened to old 90s hits all day and next to that was an old guy - a palm reader who burst out laughing every 5 minutes or so. Which was very entertaining for us :)
Today we managed to drag ourselves out of bed after little sleep to
go snorkeling with 4 others from our hostel, and 2 Israelis (which you can find A LOT of right now). We got a good deal with a main from the beach, snorkeling in the morning followed by a BBQ lunch on Playa Tiburones (Shark Beach). As soon as we went in the water we saw every kind of fish imaginable, and even a few barracudas. The first spot was very busy, lots of day trippers from Cancun who were blasting Bee Gees from their boat and sipping on their cocktails. Tssk.
The second spot was much more quiet and again lots of fish. At one point they were all around us, quite a sight. The lunch on the beach was great, grilled mackerel, rice, salad..yum. Tonight is our last night here (we are already planning a return visit on the way back...:) so we´ll have to have a little drink in the beach bar before taking the ferry back tomorrow. Sniff. Next we see the temples!!
