Final Week on Isla and off to Merida Blog #12
Published: April 6th 2012North America » Mexico » Quintana Roo » Isla MujeresHope this blog finds everyone healthy and happy! We've heard the weather at home has been incredible. That's awesome!! Hard to believe. We have had a quiet week just puttering around doing our usual island stuff. The island is just hopping right now due to Semana Sanata (Easter). Groves of Mexicans from the mainland are here to celebrate. The holiday extends from the week before Easter and the week after. The majority of Mexicans are catholic so Easter is an important time for them. The beaches are just packed wtih Mexican families enjoying themselves. They brings pots of ceviche, taco fillings, gauacamole etc. and coolers of drinks and just plop themselves down for a day of fiesta!! Tourists like us are dwindling in numbers as the high season draws to an end. We were talking to ... read more
Continuing to Enjoy Isla with Pictures Around The Island Blog #11
Published: March 28th 2012North America » Mexico » Quintana Roo » Isla MujeresHola Los Amigos!! Not much to report this week other than our usual relaxed island life routine. Walking, biking, beaching, swimming, shopping, reading, snorkelling, enjoying margaritas, playing dominoes and cards and practising our spanish with the locals pretty well sums up a typical day on Isla for us! Consequently, this blog will be mostly pictures. On Monday we rented a golf cart and bombed around the island checking out new places and old favourite places. We were very surprised at all the new beautiful casas that have been built on the east and west coasts since we were here two years ago. There must be a lot of Americans and Canadians who live here semi permanently by the looks of these new stunning homes. We made a stop at Garrafon Castilla which is a quaint little ... read more
BackTo Isla Mujeres, Mexico - Blog # 10
Published: March 20th 2012North America » Mexico » Quintana Roo » Isla MujeresIt is great to be back on Isla!! This is our sixth visit to the island and 4th time back our same hotel - Chac Chi Suites. It's kind of like going to the lake as we are very familiar with the island and have gotten to know many of the locals through the years. It's amazing that most of them remember us from two years ago and we just pick up like we never left!! Even though the island is much the same there have been many improvements and changes since we were here two years ago. Most of the changes are good however we hope that with progress it won't lose the small island feel. The roads and sidewalks have all had a facelift along with new pathways, statues and monuments. There are also ... read more

Also 2 Stunden plus 9 Stunden. Komme erst am Donnerstag an.... read more
Der Restaurant Zwischenfall & F... the police
Hmm. Neueroeffnung in 3 Tagen. Wir haben aber jetzt Hunger, Wartezeit daher ... read more
We had decided to travel onwards to Isla Mujueres on Thursday instead of Friday as it seemed most of our companions at Rio Playa were leaving. The Korean girl was off to Cuba, and our Swede friends and 2 more Swedes we met the previous night were all destined for Isla. We had originally decided to spend our last day in Playa on the beach, and as it had started raining we definitely decided it was time to move on. So we packed our bags with heavy hangovers, discarding many unrequired items, as we knew the journey was going to be tough in the heat. Before leaving Playa we went for one final meal at our favourite taco place with Martin, Andre and the New Zealander. The four of us including the Swedes then trudged in ... read more
Hammer Pants and 2 for 1 Drinks: Welcome to Isla Mujeres!!!
Published: October 17th 2010North America » Mexico » Quintana Roo » Isla Mujeres2/17/10- Left the depressing Hostel Marpez and caught the Puerto Juarez collectivo in front of Chendraui supermarket and decided to stay at the Pocna on Isla Mujeres. The cheapest way to get around Cancun is the collectivo. They're half the size of the regular buses and cost 5.50 pesos!!! I can't help but feel I may have worn the wrong outfit...dressed in a 70's Hawaiian print dress that comes down to my ankles and lugging around a backback and luggage on wheels. The humidity is more than I can bear and I'm sweating like a prize fighter. The citizens of Cancun are on their way to work and I'm on my way to lazy days with tragically hip hippies in lounging around in M.C. Hammer pants sipping cerveza and discussing, in slightly slurred speech, not entirely ... read more
Isla Mujeres (Island of Women)
Published: September 9th 2010North America » Mexico » Quintana Roo » Isla MujeresChad had high hopes for this island: he was hoping it was going to be just like the name and have lots of women but fortunately for me there were men there too A quick taxi ride from the bus station (50MXN) to Puerto Jarez then a fast ferry (70MXN each) had us arriving on Isla Mujeres to be greeted by brilliant white sand and clear turquoise waters I left Chad under a tree on the beach whilst I searched for a suitable hotel for us to stay in. I looked at a few, some of which were seriously overpriced, but luckily I spotted Hotel Cabanas Maria del Mar right on the best beach on the island, Playa Norte. They had a special deal on their modern rooms (490MXN) which had a king size bed, fridge, ... read more
