It‘s 6am. Daria is ready, loaded with both a big and mini rucksack (and of course the bum bag) all matching with her new turquoise Gore-Tex shoes (a last minute purchase). I have my decent sized shoulder bag, I am a light traveler going with hand luggage only ;) because in London I live with too many possessions (Daria says I am a hoarder). I like the experience of travelling light and want to enjoy having only what’s minimal and indispensable; it’s important for understanding how nice and happy life could be when you just have a few essential things with you (like Bicarbonate of soda, very important for Travelling!) Ciao to Tulse Hill, East Croydon and Gatwick and your 9 Degrees! One TUI flight later we arrive at 4pm local time in Cancun, Mexico with ... read more

Time to explore a completely new area today - Isla Mujeres AND under the water. We grabbed a cab to drive over to Puerto Juarez to catch a ferry across to the Island. We snacked on sandwiches and granola bars for breakfast while waiting in line. The ferry took about 20 minutes to get to Isla Mujeres and Alex, of course, slept the whole time. We arrived around 7:50 just enough time to walk to the dive shop we were going with. However when we got there it was closed with a sign on the door stating they were out diving and wouldn't be back until 5:30pm. Eeek! My Emil had both 8 and 9 on the information so I was under the impression that 8 was the show up time and 9 the departure. Now ... read more

Imagine your days spent swinging in a hammock or laying on the beach under the bright blue sunny skies. Or jumping into crystal clear waters so calm and walm to cool off before returning to your shaded spot under a palm tree. Maybe practicing yoga in the morning, attempting a little slack lining in the afternoon and dancing the night away in the evening; making new friends and finding new favourite songs.... This is exactly how we spent our time here. Almost 2 full weeks! Isla mujeres is a place where time stops and you almost forget you have other destinations to visit. This is our 5th time (3rd together) on this island and it's still one of our favs. We first enjoyed Isla mujeres as a couple way back in 2008 and visited it every ... read more

Sam reckons the day we both arrived in Cancun isn't our first day. I'll concede because then it means we had the coolest first day ever (day 0 = not flying through a hurricane in Bermuda- good choice Mr Captain, taking actually forever to get to the hostel, meeting Kylie from NZ and going for tacos - yummy, and Sam arriving when I definitely wasn't asleep because I was staying awake until she arrived...) This little island just off the coast of Cancun is basically heaven. Definitely worth getting stuck inside the bus and having to climb out the boot and maybe, possibly getting a teeny tiny bit sunburnt. The sand is beautiful and white, the sea is turquoise; the sun was shining and there wasn't a cloud in the sky! Having met Linda on the ... read more

Coming over to Mexico was a bit of a last minute decision. I could have gone back to live and teach in Barcelona but after travelling Spain and Portugal myself in the summer I felt that I wanted to have more of an adventure. So Mexico it was. It didn't really sink in until I was on the flight over that I was going here myself to live on a little island. My family are usually quite chilled and upfor my travelling decisions but this one seemed to shock and worry them all. Mexico seems to have this bad rep of being dangerous and not somewhere to go especially as woman alone. Couldn't disagree more! I landed in Cancun and then had to get a 20 minute ferry across to Isla Mujeres - the island of ... read more

It was a major priority that as soon as we got to Mexico we hot-footed it to a genuine tropical paradise. Two hours after landing in Cancun we were on the sun deck of ferry traversing a short stretch of the Caribbean to Isla Mujeres, basking in the warmth with a guy playing an electric guitar singing eclectic crowd favourites ranging from Credence Clearwater Revival to Besame Mucho. Author's note: For the sake of thematic coherence we will cover all three of our tropical resort experiences in this blog, although this is at the expense of chronological accuracy. It wasn't quite three tropical paradises as the middle one was actually a bit of a hole. More of that later - let's not get ahead of ourselves! Isla Mujeres is an 8km long, but less than 1km ... read more

Pit... read more

Siirryin laivalla laheiselle Isla Mujeresin saarelle. Majapaikka oli ainoan kylan keskustassa. Kavin uimassa meressa. Vesi oli lamminta. Jatin tavarat vahdittavaksi laheiseen ravintolaan. Kavin illalla katsomassa auringonlaskua ja iltataivaan planeettoja. Venus ja Merkurius nakyivat taas. Yollakin piisasi lamminta.... read more

HOLA!! July 2nd & 1 more sleep till we see our girls :) How was your Canada Day? Ours was amazing; was there any doubt?
