Our place
The path to the beach The adventure has begun. We left home early, early on Jan 13th. Clayton is our faithful chauffer but of course he is probably counting days in anticipation of having the whole house to himself!! Glad to see the tail end of us. We did the 4 hour layover in Dallas which actually was OK. It is an amazing airport. It is American Airlines hub and is huge with AA. There are 5 huge terminals each with probably 50 gates. The Terminals are all connected by a very cool SkyLink monorail. You can travel to each of these terminals to check out shops, restaurants etc without ever leaving the secured area. Very cool.
Our wonderful friends, James and Karen met us in PV at the airport even though it was 9:30PM and we are always cautioned about driving after dark in Mexico. Too many bikes, burros, people etc on the road to be safe but we made it safe and sound. After leaving home at 5:30AM and getting here at 9:30PM we were ready for a ride and not the bus etc.
Our place is great. Sharie, John, Mike and Marg were here to greet us, feed us and drink
us which was delightful. It has been a whirlwind 10 days. Kathy Manchak arrived for 1 week on Tuesday so of course we have to have the welcome dinner and then Jim and Deb arrived so another Welcome dinner and then Ed and Anita arrived etc but the leaving starts. A goodbye dinner on Monday night for Kathy, Jim and Deb's is tonight.
Larry has been golfing lots. There is the Field of Dreams just a 100 pesos ride away and he and Mike Walsh go often. Today is Mens day so Jim joined them. They start with the beer on the first T even though it is only 9:30AM. Mike and Larry golf with RV friends on Saturday and Sunday in the Jaltemba Chrity Cup event. Larry has had a very painful shoulder for the last few months but it is amazing how golf does not seem to agrivate it until he gets home!! Anyway, he loves it. Ed and Anita will take his clubs home for him which is very nice. He was not sure how he was going to get them home.
Most of the group rented a taxi on Tuesday and did the croc
farm. They were able to hire the taxi and the driver for the day to go exactly where they wanted to go for about 1/4 the price of a tour bus ride.
Yesterday, we hired another taxi van and the 10 of us taxied down to Suyulita, which is a small village on the beach down the highway. Some shopped for the hour, others went to the bar for giant Margueritas. Check out the pix. Then we hopped back in the taxi and carried on down the road to Bucerias. We all had fond memories of Bucerias, so did a stroll through town after hitting the bar because we all needed a bano. Strolled on down to a lovely little restaurant that Larry and I and Ed and Anita discovered 5 years ago. Mexico is not known for its beef steak. We have tried every butcher in town and it kind of grows in your mouth as you chew it. This little restaurant has the best beef steak around. They tell us they buy it the same place we do but it is how it is cooked. I call BS on that line!! Also, the Frozen Peanutbutter pie is
marvellous. Gilberto our driver had dinner with us and talked about his family etc for the whole evening. It was great. He said it was very uncommon for guests to invite him to eat with them. It was our reward. His english was great and he was a lovely young man. We rented him and his taxi from 2PM until 9:30PM and each couple paid $350 pesos ($35) Such a treat. He was ours so stopped whenever we wanted for as long as we wanted and everyone could drink without worrying about driving.
Today is Market day so I am on my own for a few hours. Very nice. Larry is golfing. I might walk into LaPenita and meet everyone for lunch. A 1 hour walk or a $2 taxi ride. It is very warm so maybe a good excuse to taxi.
We would love some emails. I will try and check my emails associated with this travel blog or just email to schnurr@shaw.ca.
Talk again soon. Sorry, not enough hours in this day to wait to download pix. I will try again later
