Today is our last full day in Mexico. The time has gone by very quickly. I think I will miss the doves cooing and the roosters crowing in the mornings! This morning there was a prowling cat on a lower roof of this hotel. He looked ready to pounce on the sparrow-like birds in the area.
After breakfast we walked down to the municipal pier area to catch the boat to Las Gatas beach, across Zihuatanejo Bay from the municipal pier. The boat driver said he uses his boat for tuna fishing when not carrying passengers. Tickets were 50 pesos per person round trip, or $2.50 each. We found a quiet table and settled in. One of the waiters came over and said he remembered us from a few years ago. We were impressed. He said he remembers faces but not names. His name was Juan and he has been a waiter there for 27 years. I will have to check my old blogs and see if I mentioned him. He was a very nice, friendly guy and we remembered him as well.
The beach was very peaceful today, not too crowded, not too many vendors. Later
in the afternoon we ordered garlic fish and shrimp. Very good. Another big, late lunch so probably a very light dinner.
Later we went to Oxxo and got a little tub of ice cream which we shared. Perfect amount after our big lunch. Two guys share the desk job here at the hotel, each working 12 hours. We gave a Twins hat to one of them. The other guy was there tonight when we got back. We gave him a tip and a Twins hat too. Got a big smile out of him.

We have been coming to Zihuatanejo/Ixtapa for close to 30 years and it is my favorite place in Mexico (Margie's is Puerto Vallarta). I think we have been here about 8 times. We started in Ixtapa when it was much smaller and just visited Zihuatanejo. On one of our first trips we were snorkeling on Ixtapa Island and Margie got pushed by the current into the coral. She was a bloody mess with many sea urchin barbs in her hand. There were just a few restaurants and the workers cut some trees (aloe?) to treat it and
pulled out most of the barbs. We went back to the hotel and they directed us to the Naval Hospital in Ixtapa. They gave me a list that I took to the pharmacy and then they worked on her a long time removing barbs. We went back the next day and they rebandaged it. I expected a big bill but I think they charged us less than $10.
We stayed in Ixtapa for the first trips and then at the Hotel Irma in Zihuatanejo (there were airline/hotel package deals). We drove to Mexico twice and stopped in Zihuatanejo. If you are interested in these trips you can probably find them if you Google "fuzzytravel takmex3". On one of the road trips we found Hotel Plaza Kioto in somebody's blog. There is no English spoken here but we like it very much (we stayed here 13 out of 19 days this trip).
We have learned the area and don't frequent many tourist restaurants. My favorite places are Barra de Potosi and Ixtapa Island which are tourist places but if you ask the waiter's name and treat him with respect you can have a very positive experience.
