Well....it is cool and rainy today. The storm came in with high winds around 2:00 am, waking Bill (who was getting wet) and not me. The hotel doesn't have any real indoor spaces: our room has screens but no way to close off the windows. The covered patio gives us quite a bit of protection, but the wind was blowing hard enough to push rain into the room. It calmed down after about 30 minutes, but has been raining most of the day since then. We made it to the cash machine in the OXXO (like a 7/11) on the main road, but are waiting for a break to go eat dinner!

I saw some bright orange and yellow birds today, but don't know what they are....There are many long-tailed grackles here: black with yellow eyes and an extensive vocabulary.

I'm getting better at running barefoot on the sand. I can do a mile in about 13 minutes. For all you non-runners, there is now research that shows that running shoes might be causing foot and knee problems, and that running barefoot could be better for you. This has made the small, but righteous, barefoot runners club very happy.

My feet, which have given me problems for the past few years, seem to like the barefoot running.

We decided to try going out for dinner around 5:00pm. The owners recommended the small restaurant right at the end of our street, so we set off...Normally, the unpaved street has several puddles from some kind of leak (there was foam in them yesterday, so I think it might be grey water...), but tonight the whole thing was flooded. After weighing our options (none that did not involve lengthy detours) we found that we could walk on the pile of posts lying along the road and end up on somewhat dry land.

We arrived at the tiny restaurant at the same time as a group of Jehovah Witnesses, who took up five of the six tables. The owner speaks perfect English, having gone to graduate school in San Diego. He and his wife run this as a way to keep busy after his retirement from the field of electrical engineering. We were enjoying getting out of our hotel, so had no prblem with the long wait for dinner. The JWs were not so gracious...the owner brought us free beers to

reward our patience!

We were still a bit hungry after dinner (delicious, under $10 for two), so went next door to the beer/convenience store and bought cookies (Lynn) and ice cream (Bill). Now after two beers each, we had to negotiate the pile of posts again....We did it, and are safely home!

830pm...rain has stopped...air is fresh...sun is supposed to be back tomorrow....

Still jealous? You betcha, as the bimbo ex-guv of Alaska might say. We are expecting a major Winter storm in this area today. Hopefully, Detroit will be a bit North of the area that will be hardest hit. Anyway, you made the rain storm sound like fun. I can't remember if you were still in Mendoza when we got that sudden squall and Belgrano flooded. We practically needed a boat to cross the street to our favorite restaurant. I am surprised though, that you don't have a way to close windows. Doesn't the hotel. at some point in the season need air conditioning? It gets hot down there! C.
