Done by the maids at the Acamar. Saturday: It seems that Acapulco is a magnet of sorts for mistakes in our Mexico travels. Some of you may remember that we ended up in Aca last time after having made the mistake of skipping it on our way between Zihuateneo and Taxco. (We decided that Taxco was too noisy and turned around the next day and came back to Aca.) Well, this time we have now decided that we should have stayed in Pie de la Cuesta and made a a day trip or two into Aca. So, here we are, at the Acamar for just one night, and planning to return to Pie tomorrow!
We just couldn’t find the charm we’d seen the first time here….especially compared to the Villa Nirvana and Pie itself. It didn’t help that we arrived on Saturday afternoon, when bus loads arrive from the city and cover this little beach. We did walk around the wealthy neighborhoods near here tonight, after swimming and snorkeling at the crowded beach. Luckily, most Mexicans seem to prefer shallow water, so it is easy to get some space to swim. We saw at least a dozen kinds of fish only a little ways off the beach,
along the rocks.
Friday, still in Pie, we took a local collectivo (minivan) down the beach road to where it ends, in in the village of La Barra, where the river that fills the lagoon breaks through to the ocean in the rainy season. The village is mostly seafront palapas offering fish dinners...there must be dozens...and no one eating in any of them. We were the only tourists there, and just walked the beach, and then headed back. The trip was about 12 miles each way and bus fare was $1.60 round trip each.
I experience such moments of pure happiness, riding along in a bus or van, warm breeze blowing in the window, people chatting in Spanish…scenery passing by and me not knowing what I’ll see next….
Sunday: We are back home in Pie! Back in our old room, with waves crashing in the night...The staff has been laughing about our quick return...and are happy to see us back. We unpacked, swam and then went out to dinner at the wonderful Picalagua restaurant on the lagoon with a couple from Moosejaw, Canada, that we had met on Saturday before we left. They serve the best corn

In La Barra at the literal end of the road... flan I have ever had!
Earlier today in Acapulco, I swam just after the sun was high enough to hit the bay, Bill watched Anaconda on TV, we breakfasted, and headed out for the old center of town. I love the zocolo with its old trees and 30's cathedral....we walked to the fort and visited the museum there, which we had missed on our first visit. The main feature of the exhibits is the history of the amazing trade route established in 1565 between Acapulco and the Philippines, and then over to the Atlantic by mule and on to Spain. China became part of this trade also. I had no knowledge of this before reading about the museum!
Afterwards we walked quite a ways to the central market. A few guides tried to sell us their services, and one told us we would just get lost on our own....we didn't...and then caught a bus back to the Acamar. I swam one last time...hoping to savor my final swim in warm saltwater...but a bunch of trash had washed in and the used condom floating by really ruined it for me...I hopped out of the bay, changed and then we

Looking back towards Pie were on our way back to Niirvana!
Monday: watched the sunrise, ran two miles up the beach and back, cooled off in the waves, had coffee on the vernada, breakfasted....and now have nothing to do until dinner! It's wonderful....The sun is out, there is a breeze, almost no one in sight... I think we'll play cards when I am done with this blog....

Great pics!
I don't see no stinkin' rain. Were you just trying to make me feel better? Well, the sun is out today, so I acutally do feel a little better. Plus, the MONA docent winter party is tonight. I enjoy getting to know a few more docents each time we get together. I went to the Pacific Northwest Ballet, Sleeping Beauty, dress rehearsal on Wednesday and the Garden show Thursday, many drinks and "small plates" at happy hour events, a 2200 agent Windermere meeting at Banaroya Hall on Friday and had an uneventful week-end. My little life ticks along, and the daffodils are getting higher by the day. So, when will you be returning to the Hope Island Manse? Best thoughts, Breta
