Well, 3 years on nearly and here I am back in Creel...in fact back in the same interneto place altho´staying much more salubriously this time...at the Best Western...seppo crap that the others insisted on for telephone connections for the lappos etc...but after the last few days I wasbn´t complaining about a bit of lux as in ury.... Had a big one a the Beachfire restaurant in San Clemente on the last night in the US..bit of a reunion and farewell for Ted & Grant with a bunch of their surf friends...in the morning we grouped at the RipCurl office...Ted got a bit lost but we set up for him to take the definitive start of ¨the Search¨shots...he´s subsequently lost them in the computer (he says) and I´ve only got one of Ted checking his light meter ... read more

You may have been wondering where the title for the previous update came from. As it happens I omitted the next couple of lines from the end of the journal. Hope all is clear now. After the pizza I again try to get some cash out for the bus tomorrow. Two ATMs not working properly. The third withholds my card. Aaaargh ! Give up for tonight. ... read more

Sunday 3rd July - To Chihuahua Went to a different cafe for breakfast. Ordered porage. Without prompting they served it with a banana. Cost twice as much as at Estela yesterday. Further Rory poured coffee creamer on his banana porage thinking it was sugar. It was inedible. Off to the bus 'station' at 10:00, bought tickets for the 10:30 to Chihuahua, first class according to the ticket. Phoned the Hotel Plaza in Chihuahua and think I booked two rooms for the night. Only a few people on the bus but it filled up as we passed through settlements and villages with locals who seemed to be wearing Sunday best. Had they been to Church or were they visiting rellies, or both ? I did not ask. We passed through dramatic landscape of soaring hills, pine woods, ... read more

We returned to Antigua - and had a shower (cold) - in order to make the connection for an early flight back to Mexico. After a few bed bug bites we were up at 3.30am to get to the shuttle bus to Guatemala City Airport. We had a lay over of about 5 hours in Mexico City Airport before our flight to the northern city of Chihuahua. When we told the taxi driver where we wanted to stay he was not too keen on taking us there - as it turned out it was a bit below our expectations, but it was the cheaper option..... We had forgotten how hot Mexico was after the coolness of the Guatemalan Highlands - back to being sweaty bettys. After an EDAF team meeting it was decided that a slightly ... read more

17 Feb 2000 Hotel Continental, Juarez Crossed over to Mexico today for the first time and will probably do a bit of to-ing and fro-ing along the border. We crossed over to Mexico in a major dust storm, El Paso is a hole, but at least we now have all the relevant paper work and documentation to take our car into Mexico. The Americans are convinced we will be back as they can’t believe anyone would keep heading south around here. Mind you when I see how seedy El Paso and Juarez are I can understand why they may think that. Just ran into the same 12 year old boy escorting yet more fat American old men back to the room down the hallway in the Hotel Continental we are staying in on my way to ... read more

Geo: 31.7333, -106.483My parents drove my sister, Mona, and myself all the way across Texas to visit my other sister, Paula. It was a long, hot and fun drive. I remember I annoyed the heck out of Mona until she finally laughed ~ probably from hysteria at wanting me to shut-it-up! ;-) Ha! Mexico was dirty, loud, and fascinating. We bought puppet dolls, leather goods, and hard candy from the poor kids. It was definitely an interesting trip!... read more
