First off, I have to let you know we’re having tiny problems with our WIFI signal. Always before we could get it from our motor home, which was very convienent, but the last few days it’s too weak to run anything (can you say S L O W…..) so we have to move the laptop to another building, and hope for a stronger signal there. Inconvientent. I’m hoping when the tech people get back from holiday (pronounced with a long o) they’ll get it running again. Please hope with me! Also, this website is not accepting my pictures, which is why you haven’t seen the hundreds and hundreds (or less) of pictures I’ve taken. I’m working on that situation also. Bear with me, as this isn’t my day job….. The men worked in the auditorium ... read more

O Canada! Our home and native land! True patriot love in all thy sons command. With glowing hearts we see thee rise, The True North strong and free! From far and wide, O Canada, we stand on guard for thee. God keep our land glorious and free! O Canada, we stand on guard for thee. O Canada, we stand on guard for thee. All Canadians know their national anthem. Not only do they know the words in English, but most Canadians know them in French too. Today we experienced Canada Day first hand in the capital city. We began our day by walking up to Parliament Hill to see the changing of the guard, the musical ride (the guards performing on horses), and a small air show. On their own, each activity was a fairly ... read more

canada day ottawaIt’s July 1st- Canada Day! I woke up this morning to find the city full of red and white. After breakfast we headed to Parliament Hill to see the changing of the guard and experience the opening of the 140th Canada Day. There were thousands of people with hats, shirts, and flags ready to celebrate. After the changing of the guard we walked around the different areas and booths all celebrating the multicultural tradition that makes Canada special. We then took a break and had lunch at the National Art Centre. This evening we will continue with a fireworks show and live music concerts which are taking place all around the city. It really is a big party for everyone. After two amazing and relaxing weeks in Whistler I decided to leave it and go to Vancouver Island. I met Hannes at Friday afternoon in Vancouver and together we went to Victoria, where we spent the first night. Victoria is a very nice harbor town with endless beautiful girls. On Saturday morning we picked up our rental car with which we headed to Tofino. With some pictures stops, we drove to Port Alberni where our hostel for the next tow days, the “Tsunimai Backpackers” was. It is a very small but comfortable hostel. On Sunday we went to Tofino which is famous for surfing as well as whale watching for which decided us to go. It was really amazing to see those animals. When we arrived back in Tofino, we drove back to our hostel. On ... read more

Our honeymoon trip to Alberta Canada was planned less because of a lifelong spiritual desire to experience the majestic Canadian Rockies, but because round trip airline tickets from Boston to Calgary were available for less than $400. Our arrival to the Calgary airport brought me back to a time (the late 1980’s) when industrial flooring covered the ground at airports instead of carpeting and the bathrooms didn’t have toilets that automatically flushed. We reserved the cheapest smallest car available but the rental agency mistakenly gave us a Hearse, which was a bit morbid, but it was easy to lie down in and get some rest. Our first night in Calgary was spent eating a midnight meal at a very crowded Denny’s restaurant. We drove a bit out of town and slept in our car next to ... read more

Happy Canada Day! Sunday, 1 July 2007 Today dawned cool but with definite potential to get warmer as the day progressed, so I took Silver & rode towards Kamsack, on highway 8. Even though it was a quiet day for commercial transport vehicles there were still quite a few holiday-seekers out in their RV’s or pickup trucks pulling boats or mobile homes, just booting it up the highway, trying get to their destinations as quickly as possible. They weren’t nearly as considerate as those who drive for a living. But everything went well, no serious wind problems (hooray!) and fairly flat terrain. Stopped at a tiny hamlet called Wroxton & took a few photos of a church - Russian Orthodox style - and a grain elevator (to help me remember the name of the town!). I’m ... read more

We missed all the town festivities because we were out on the delta. But from what we heard I probably would have prefered to be out on the delta anyways. We did get cake, which a local woman bakes, when we got back:) The weather was better then yesterday, but still not as nice as the first two days I was in Inuvik. We visited 3 different lakes in the delta today. 2 of them were not attached and... read more

I began the day a bit behind the ball due to sleeping in after a truly decadent evening at the B.goods mobile bakery launch party. The sample treats were delicious AND relatively healthy, and the awesome Northern Brazilian music of Forro in the Dark had us almost dancing off all those cookies! So I missed my group (Dende do Recife)’s first roda in the Market (downtown market area of Ottawa). Then I had a bit of a repeat of my unsuccessful Friday evening attempts to find Capoeira. One of the things I was actually looking forward to with my return to Canada was that I thought some things would be so much easier. So it was quite funny to not be able to track down my capoeirista friends due to delayed emails, websites not being ... read more
