Once on the road, all felt right. No more worrying about getting task X done, or Y crossed off. We were free, and ready to relax. Easier said than done. The first day was occupied with the long drive to Port Angeles, Washington, which was fairly pleasant with the exception of the traffic in Portland, though the views of Mounts Rainier and Hood made it more palatable. After a long, tiring drive (I really need to teach Sara to drive stick!), we rolled into Port Angeles around 8pm, just in time to eat at Bella Italia, the best restaurant in town and one we had visited 7 years earlier. The vegetarian lasagna was just as good as Sara had remembered, and my dish was quite tasty as well. The KOA lived up to expectations (they ... read more

Tickets are paid for! It's been 7 months since we returned to Canada from our last time in Thailand. I'm always amazed at how quickly cobwebs and dust accumulate on the gear when it just sits in a closet. In September, we will be leaving again for new adventures and some time to play overseas. We are gearing up again for a four month journey back to South East Asia. This trip we are hoping to cover more of Thailand, working with another orphanage on the border of Myanmar, teaching a little bit, heading into Essan for a visit with old friends and some special places, and of course time spent with our friends in the South at Baan Tharn Namchai. We will be hopping countires to visit in Vietnam and Indonesia as well this trip! ... read more

Ouf! ... read more

Salam Alaykum! This is the trip that proves you can make anything happen if you put your mind it. Waiting for the right moment, means all you do is wait! Fourty eight hours from now we will be at the airport. Packs packed and ready for the journey overseas. We'll do our best to report in from Cairo on the first day before heading out into the coolest (well, probably the hottest) camping trip into the desert. Egypt and Jordan: here we come!... read more

Hi all, After making our way from lake louise to Jasper on the coach we only stayed 1 night as the Hostel was a shit hole and we were 3 km at least from everywhere and had no car. So it was gonna be a nightmare to get food and drink so we headed the next day for Vancouver. 25 mins outside Jasper and the clock went back an hour. (its completely crazy) After a coach journey which felt like a lifetime lol we finally arrived in Vancouver, We got up the next day and headed for stanley park to go to the aqarium. The park itself has a 5 1/2 mile radius its massive and the aquarium was good. Later that night we went out for a few drinks, we were sitting outside the bar ... read more

Well today was our first field day on the Mackenzie delta and the weather apparently did not know this, or maybe it did.... Sue is studying the landscape-level variation of dissolved organic carbon amoung the delta lakes, particularly the effects on food web structure and implications of the future (ie global warming). We roared down the silt filled channel in our 16 foot motor boat. Sue says that the river is low this year, meaing that there was not as much of a flood this year. The banks of the river looked like perfectly aligned vertical stacks of mud with trees leaning directly at us as we passed by. The trees lean in toward the centre of the channel because the permafrost beneath them is melting in the summer sun (24 hours/day of it!). Our ... read more

Courtney and I are sitting here at the computer and the anticipation is growing. We all just finished school and we are making our last minute preparations. Are you packed Trev?? Are you kidding, we still have 6 days. It is not even the morning of our departure. We have gone and purchased our Euros, 4 of the 5 travellers have packed their bags and we have checked our flights and accommodations. We can't believe that it has come so fast. We welcome all of those that would like to join us on our journey. This recording of thoughts, ideas and pictures is just as much for us as it is for you but we welcome conversation and feedback. Trev has just experienced one of the most emotional weeks of his life and he is filled ... read more

I am here in Quebec City and was planning to leave today for some camping, but was talked into hanging out with Thomas and sharing Laurances apartment while shes in Montreal for the weekend. It rained tonite so Im glad I did. This point in the trip though, Im no longer really driven to a goal. Im going to NYC next for my friend Adams birthday, but I have no couches planned and very little in the way of planning going on. Frankly Im tired of that and also of sightseeing. There is so much to see in these new places, but spending at least 5 hours a day walking around is a lot of work and I have the t-shirt tan to prove it. I think for a while I will avoid doing tourist things ... read more
