Background: A land of vast distances and rich natural resources, Canada became a self-governing dominion in 1867 while retaining ties to the British crown. Economically and technologically the nation has developed in parallel with the US, its neighbor to the south across an unfortified border. Canada's paramount political problem is meeting public demands for quality improvements in health care and education services after a decade of budget cuts. The issue of reconciling Quebec's francophone heritage with the majority anglophone Canadian population has moved to the back burner in recent years; support for separatism abated after the Quebec government's referendum on independence failed to pass in October of 1995.

A visit to Quebec city before starting school. We decided to take a roadtrip over because that is what we love to do. The ride over with JV and Elvis, DOG HOUSE!, blaring on the radio made the 7 hour trip pass by so quickly. So what can we say about this city? Its quaint, a great place to escape the NYC heat and humidity, and thats about it. The sky is huge here, but thats attributed to the lack of many tall buildings in the area. We didn't do much here except walk on the wall and in the [View Full Entry]

Motorhome News from North America 15 27th June - 9th July 2006 ‘Gone Fishin’ in Ontario - and the Italians were celebrating in Quebec City! It was time for a break from travelling, planning routes, seeking out campsites - even writing - and time for a change of routine. In Europe we took a holiday break and flew to Majorca in January 2005, leaving Smiley, (our UK Autotrail motorhome) in Valencia. It snowed in Majorca somewhat to our amazement, but hopefully that’s far less likely in Ontario in June! This time we plan our holiday break with friends in H [View Full Entry]

Haha, and I thought that Montreal was typically French.. Nothing compared to Quebec! There are even people over there who don't speak English at all, despite the fact that it's one of the official languages of Canada. But okay, many people in the English part don't speak French either. This is a bit like an everlasting quarrel, in which of course the English part has the most power. As I've heard the French part would like to be separated from the English part, but then they would want to have Montreal too, where by now also a lot of English speaking [View Full Entry]

So, day one in Quebec City was one of my favourite days yet. We woke at around 7am in time to have breakfast and leave for the slopes. The breakfast was free, included in the hostel so Lucy and I took FULL advantage! We had toast which was made less boring by the fact that to cook it we had to use one of those foreign balance your bread on a rotating toaster things! We also had cereal, a bagel, a muffin, fruit, tea and orange juice. We got to the slopes and were a little worried as the weather was [View Full Entry]

I am privileged to be posting this journal from Canada while enjoying my first visit to this wonderful country. While on the road Canadians have always held a special place in my heart, I believe they share with Australians a spirit of fun and adventure which has made them excellent travel companions during many overseas trips. Now I'm pleased to report I can finally dispense with the worn out travellers line ... I would love to visit your country. Here I am and very glad to be in the country that was narrowly beaten into third position in the recently completed [View Full Entry]

View from Montmorency Falls.
Started my tour to Quebec City at 7:30 in the morning, with 3 Brazillian friends. Quebec is 3 hours away from Montreal by bus. First stop was at Montmorency Falls, the highest waterfall in North America. Was there for an hour. Really didn't need that much time. It was freezing cold. -20 to -30C. Felipe kept getting "frozen" by the cold weather. Next, we visited Place Royale. An important historic site in front of the walled fortress. Had to see Chateau Frontenac and the Old Quebec Ville of course. It was a very pretty little part of town, but I must [View Full Entry]

Trip to the "Musee" I escaped outside the walls! Beautiful City! The day started out with some gray weather that surprisingly turned sunny for a little bit. So I decided to take a little walk around the streets outside of the Old Walled City of Québec towards the Musee du Québec in the Western part of the City near the infamous battlefields where Wolfe and Montcalm died in I think the 1700's sometime. There are so many funky and trendy shops and cafes along rue St. Jean. I couldn't help but pop into a few along the way and did a [View Full Entry]
