We take a final quiet stroll through the quaint backstreets of Old Quebec. Some of the house numbers are a bit on the quaint side too; I thought they only had numbers like 41 1/2 in Harry Potter movies. Today we’re flying to Toronto to catch up with Emma and Michael. We should be feeling relaxed, but we’re not. We paid an exorbitant amount of money for a downtown apartment through Booking.com several months ago. We quickly got a message back to say it was all confirmed, but then about a month later we got an email out of the blue headed “Request to Cancel”; it seemed that our money hadn’t made its way from Booking.com‘s coffers to those of the owners. …. so we messaged Booking.com who reassured us that everything was fine. We also ... read more

Departed Ottawa. The airport check in process was easy. I always have to wait a little bit to actually see a person when checking my bag because they have to verify my Veteran status to receive the free bag check in. Once that was done, it was off to the dreaded security check in. The line was long, but it moved along quite well. They’ve made some improvements since I’ve last travelled. For example, the person at the start of the cue for security only verifies that you have a boarding pass now instead of scanning it or checking your identification. Then, you get in the line with others. Once you get to the ‘head’ of the line, another security screening agent will indicate which line of machine you’ll head to. Once there, you scan your ... read more

Well, we picked up our RV this afternoon after I had finished a long day at work. Shelley and I drove to the Westboro area of Ottawa to meet our hosts Malcolm and Michelle, whom we rented the RV from (Outdoorsy.com). After receiving the required inspection and familiarization tour of the RV, Malcolm took us each out for a test drive of the RV through the surrounding neighbourhood and onto the 417 and back. Shelley did awesome!! This will be a fantastic adventure that starts tomorrow morning. We brought the RV home and the neighbours enjoyed seeing us loading her up in preparation for our departure the next day. It took longer than we thought loading things into the RV but we managed to get it done. Now it's time to shut down and get some ... read more

We have our dates lined up now and we've booked our reservations for the RV sites where we want to stay. We plan to leave Saturday morning early to drive down into the US towards the Boston, MA area. We've planned on staying three nights in that area taking in some sites before we leave to head to Bar Harbour, ME. Two nights in Bar Harbour area to take in the beaches and quaint shops. Next, we depart for Fundy National Park Campgrounds to stay there for four nights. We've bought bicycles to travel around with while we're at these various campsites. We then leave Fundy for the Quebec City area. We've landed on a campground on the tip of Ile-d'Orleans; about 45 mins east of Quebec City. After a couple of nights there, we'll heave ... read more

http://www.heygo.comMy first four with Daniel and what a delightful tour it was starting with a huge number of Canada Geese and Mallards all searching for food in the snow covered grass. Dufferin Islands is a quiet and secluded area not far from Horseshoe Falls and contains several small islands connected by bridges and footpaths. These man-made islands are teeming with life As we walked along the roadway we heard how the area had been developed from 1794 when permission was granted to erect a saw and grist mill at the eastern end of the islands. This was followed by an iron ore mill constructed in 1796. The 1900’s was the start of how the area changed. We stepped onto one of the many islands crisscrossing different trails across the snow. The trees in the sunshine casting ... read more

Even in winter, the nature reserve “Limerick Forest” delighted our eyes with endless vistas of tall and tumbled trees along a leaf-strewn path. Incidental sheets of thin ice crackled under-foot, some just deep enough to wet the toes of our shoes, but easily avoided. My niece and great-nieces brought me to this still woodland for exercise and fresh air. Slightly frozen puddles drew their two dogs, Quiche and Newt, into the ecstasy of wet skin, further scrubbed by vigorous rolling in patches of thin snow. The animals’ unbridled joy burst into super-sonic races amongst the trees, terminating in playful, noisy tussles. Daunted only by being placed on leashes when their barking became hysterical, they forgave and forgot the moment freedom was restored. View the video. A boardwalk carried us over the delicate ma... read more

My first tour with Jane and found it so interesting I wanted to learn more about the various art pieces. I hope that parts 1 & 2 are repeated, in the meantime look forward to the next, part of Toronto’s to discover. Zhang Huan’s Rising The striking sculpture — Zhang’s first public art commission in Canada — comprises “peace pigeons” moving up the building’s facade and twisted tree branches that are meant to resemble the body of a dragon Courtyard Cows (The Pasture) The Pasture, by the Canadian sculptor Joe Fafard was installed in 1985. It provides a stark and pastoral contrast to the urban landscape so familiar to city dwellers and is meant to be a reminder of the vast forgotten country that sustains us. Tembo, Mother of Elephants The piece is by Derrick Stephan Hudson, ... read more
