A week in Toronto ... a prelude to the BIG trip... testing the day pack, the mini notebook and the leg muscles.
Have come to Toronto :
to visit the dentist;
to buy a headlamp and cover for my parachute material backpack to Mountain Co-op;
to shop at Tilly's Endurables for $18 fast dry underwear;
to check out the ROM;
to bring freshly picked blueberries from up north;
to get a haircut;
to renew my library card;
to put my diamonds into the safety deposit box;
to visit because once I am in the sky on Oct 6 I will be on my way ... no stopping of for coffee;
to attend the 12th birthday of my godson ... just recently he was a small tyke ready for any adventure without the benefit of IPOD, WII, or PlayStation. Now personal contact runs the gauntlet of technological toys ... even the adults are on WiFi, laptops, cell phones and Mini10 Notebooks.
Between the hum and ring, beep and pop of the toys, time was made to visit the Rom. Even though it is a bit late, comment must be made about the Crystal. IT IS extremely disappointing ... much waste
Farmers' Market
There is a colourfu,l tasty selection of locally grown produce available a few days per week. of space dead end corners; high walls with massive stretches of emptiness; tiny display cases crammed with stuffed birds that once occupied a dignified amount of space. Most glaring and in need of repetition is the waste of space. The overall view when seen as an expanse of shapes is NOT pleasing to my eye. It does not make the soul soar or bring tears of joy to the eye. That experience is reserved for Guggenheim Bilbao and the Gaudi Cathedral in Barcelona.
Visited the East York Farmers' Market on the way to the Dentist. Great produce ... not cheap ...but ... locally grown ...

Baggy pant boys and tattooed ladies abound.
Hair colours from pink to green to magenta parade in shopping malls.
Paper bags with bought merchandise have been spotted instead of the offencively polluting plasticones. Each plastic costs 5 cents ... the fastest pick up on a new idea ever ... even the corner store is collecting the five cents. Is it the Law?
The area around the Air Canada Centre and the Rogers (formerly Sky)Dome is so paved and concreted that not a visage of its former self is discernible ... even the Rail line Roundhouse is being transformed.
School is about to begin ... . with the supplies being offered for the impending return, imagine one's surprise when finding Hallowe'en costumes, decorations and goodies mixed in.
Mia Culpa Mia Culpa Mia Culpa .... I have shopped at WalMart! ... The brassiere offered at The Bay cost $38.95. At WalMart the exact same brassiere
New Dinosaur Exhibit
A good selection of old and new from various areas make the dinosaur exhibit exciting. cost $23.00. SO I had to avail myself of that saving ... and how did I discover this phenomenal prize? I was searching for the brassiere by number in green and found it in white at ... Walmart! This is a major confession about falling back on my on my principals.
The weather has not been blistering and there has been little rain this past week.
I have enjoyed my short stay with friends in the city where I spent a greater part of my life. I am looking forward to going home ... then again I do have ten cords of wood to pile before Oct 6.
October 6 is the day my adventure to Norway and St. Petersburg begins. I fly from Sudbury to Toronto to Boston to Reykjavik to Oslo... all on one day... backwards in time. I will be wearing my support hose!! and will be packing veggies and fruit to supplement the tedious whitebread-mangacake sandwiches!! Hydration and elimination the key words and not the least off my concerns.
