The Farm
A heritage farm where one can visit the family farm house, barn and stable. During the summer a pleasant group of weavers met once a week in the farmhouse. The Fall Fair at Anderson Farm was a great success. Because of amalgamation, (thank you Mr. Harris) this heritage site is now under the auspices of the Greater City of Sudbury ... as are all the other small museums in this northern area.
Anderson Farm lies in the small town of Lively. This town used to belong to INCO ... it was a mining town and all the residents paid $30 mas o menos a month rent and worked for the nickel company. When the company was selling off the old houses some tenants did not have the $30,000, mas o menus, to buy their abode.
A few years ago INCO was sold to VALE from Brazil .... the workers have been on strike for three months and widows bonuses are threatened.
The Fall Fair was well attended ...2000 was the last count I heard. The committee in charge did a fabulous job. I sold not one pair of my exquisite gloves. Garth Wunsch took a great picture of my table. I did sell over a hundred dollars worth of jam. Thank you to you generous people with a sweet tooth.
The money is on its way
Jams for Grannies
G.Wunsch has taken a great shoot of all the jam on offer for the Grannies .... every dollar helps. to the
and from there it will go directly to the grass roots to help women who have been put into the situation of caring for their grand childrenn because their own children have died of AIDS. The Grannies in Africa are becoming moreand more well known. Every dollar helps.
I am one of three ladies that make up the group called The Walden Grannies. My friend who makes the fudge raises the most money because she is most dedicated to the cause. The second lady makes delicious butter tarts that sell like hot cakes. I make jam from berries I pick in the wild or in my garden.
More than $7000 dollars have been raised in the last three years. THE FUDGE LADY has to be given the greatest credit. She walks at all times with a little bag of fudge for sale. People make special orders and she is most successful with her sales pitch.
There is quite a bit of jam left. Hope to sell it in October at the Heritage Arts Guild Craft Sale at the library in Lively.
Other activities at my house in the woods include attending University TerraCottaTextiles
Knitted gloves, sock & scarves, red clay bowls and unique masks are created in my woodland studio. class, learning basic phrases in Russian, reading mystery novels, downloading Skype, picking chocolate tomatoes, and hoping that the ordinary green tomatoes will turn red before Oct. 6... which is when I am on my way ...am getting a bit anxious ... or did I say that already ... terrified is not on the list but giardia, a bacteria/virus? for which there is no preventative remedy, is. The drinking water in St. Petersburg is unsafe. How does this happen? Something to ponder.
And now this fractured entry must come to an end. Welcome to all new subscribers ... other blogs will be/are much more funny and read worthy.
An absolutely last tangent .... who uses the term "sedgway"? Are there any of these contraptions anywhere in Canada?
