July 13 Me and Mom went to small falls in our kayaks. It was a nice place. There was place to sit and have lunch. You could climb around on the rocks and dip your feet in the water. I saw a huge amount of minnows and some crawfish eating off a bone. When we got back we had a weeny roast and s'mores but when we took out the chocolate was totally melted . Its almost time for bed got to go. snake wrangler sign out.... read more

The excitement builds...couldn't sleep a wink last night and began my first blog on TravelBlog.com! Special evening and a wonderful Bon Voyage dinner on the deck - seems a little bizarre to be leaving the beauty of Kenora in my favourite summer months! Checked off all the items on the "To-Do" list, packing and repacking - the anticipation and wonder is mounting...can't wait until tomorrow! Loaded some photos today - creating a vision in my mind of some of the sights of Italy! Ciao!... read more

From wine-initiated February discussions to the reality of planning and packing...it's really happening! Italy 2012 encompasses two weeks of girlfriend time, touring, and travel activities planned by Sherry (physician by day, travel agent by night)! We begin our adventure in Winnipeg with flights into Rome. You'll find us in the Piazza Barberini. We have walking tours and a private driver booked for our "Roma Tour". Next stop on the itinerary is Florence, via train, where we begin our tour of Tuscany - San Casciano in Val di Pesa, Italy...the name itself sounds so beautiful. It's here that we have our Italian cooking class and wine tasting! Perhaps we'll have a new recipe to share with family and friends on our return! Next we visit Villa Mangicone, where we relax and tour Tuscany on Vespas! No worries ... read more

Jaja.

Well, part 2 begins! We were all very excited to get back to work on the Relay. We are a small road team as the communites are small therefore the number of Medal Bearers are small. Lots of time to really enjoy the places we go. Thunder Bay and area was great! As we moved on we finally started to get the winter it should be up here. We have travelled through many small communities but have been received with great excitement, warmth and appreciation! When we reached Ignace, the temps finally plummetted! We went from +3 to -17 degrees in the same day! Upsula Public School was alot of fun! The whole school came out and joined in with the 3 students who were chosen to be Medal Bearers. There are 17 students in all, ... read more

Ghostly Voices in an old Gold Mine As we loaded our provisions into two canoes alongside the long wooden pier at Bare Point Marina, the smell of fresh cooked pork sausages filled the air. It made me hungry. The four of us had already drove half an hour west from Kenora, through an unkempt Indian reservation named Rat Portage, to the north east corner of the Lake of the Woods. I knew it would be another hour or more before we stopped for anything to eat. It was Saturday afternoon and the world was bright and alive with the sound of children’s voices, dogs barking, and the ubiquitous hum of motor boat engines. None of us could fathom that our adventure would leave the land of living and descend into the darkness of the dead. This ... read more

Hills & rocks & trees & rocks & hills Thursday, 2 August 2007 This morning I had a few errands to run, then Bob drove me to the Kenora Tourist Information Centre, which is at the eastern edge of the town. From there I took Silver & continued heading east towards Highway 71, which goes directly south to Sioux Narrows, Nestor Falls & on to Highway 11, at the southern edge of Ontario here. It was a lovely day, not too hot, with a bit of a breeze, from variable directions. Again the riding was pleasant, good road, good shoulders, for the most part, and traffic was not too heavy. One could see the increasingly rugged nature of the terrain, with large rock formations alternating with and intermingling with trees, lakes, and more trees. Oh, and ... read more
