Sunday found us heading towards Hopewell Rocks (https://www.nbparks.ca/en/parks/33/hopewell-rocks-provincial-park) to walk on the shoreline underneath the rocks once the tide was out. The ‘fastest directions’ brought us to Highway 114 in New Brunswick; a windy, crater filled badly, lumpy one lane each way road that really only should have been a 60 km/h maximum instead of the posted 80 km/h. I’m sure the funeral homes in the area got their town council to raise that to 80 km/h since they wanted more business! We kept it to 60 km/h in the good parts, but mostly crawled like a slalom course at 45 - 50 km/h. We arrived around 12:30 and found a parking spot in the RV section of the parking lot. We were able to bring out the BBQ and I cooked up some hot dogs ... read more

The highest (and lowest) tides in the world. Walk kilometres along the ocean floor. Flowerpots. Sea caves and arches. Mud flats. You can do and see it all at Hopewell Rocks - a provincial park in New Brunswick, Canada. A wonderful day outing. During a three hour window before and after low tide, you can walk along the ocean floor and explore the unique rock formations including the famous flowerpots as well as many, many rock structures. The journey begins with a short walk along a well maintained trail to the entrance of the walking area.. After decending steps (101 to be precise) you actually reach the ocean floor. During the low tide you can walk approximately a kilometre and a half marvelling at all the rock structures as you explore. It can be a little ... read more

My first full day in Canada! I've driven about 5 hours today, but I've reached Halifax, Nova Scotia, and I'll be here until Monday, when I have my final "big driving day" of the trip - 6.5 hours to Edmundston, New Brunswick. But for today, it's been primarily an seaside day. Even most of the driving was in view of the water, or at least not far from it. I woke up in Saint John, New Brunswick, with the intention of viewing the Hopewell Rocks, a natural formation at one end of the Bay of Fundy. For those who don't know, Fundy has the craziest tides in the world, due to the shape of the bay - it goes quite a long way from the Atlantic all the way between New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. As ... read more

It was Highway #1 with trucks in front of me and transports behind me. I persevered ...did not exceed 100 k but watched my gas tank indicator sink. The Americans in the 70's had something with their announcement to go no faster than 50mi.hr ...it does conserve the petrol. My stay at http://bocabeccottages.ca was very pleasant. My co-pilot and I made it to Hopewell Cape in good time without incident. On this route more than seven cemetaries were encountered and last of all a funeral home. I drove very carefully. So far during this trip I have seen five burned out houses, three cats running in front of my van and six deer (two of them dead). New Brunswick TransCanada Highway 1 from St. Andrews was little traveled and because of four lanes it was not ... read more

First of all, I would like to thank everyone for the positive comments on the blog. Today we took a day trip to Hopewell Cape here in New Brunswick. It is located on the southeast side of New Brunswick near the Bay of Fundy. I had an experience that I had never had before. I was able to walk on the floor of the ocean. This is a very nice area to view the tides coming in and out. We arrived around 10:00 in the morning. We were able to walk down 106 stairs(I counted) to the floor of the ocean as it was low tide. This is a very unique place. Because 6 hours later we returned to see high tide. Today the high tide was around 39 ft. Usually, the highest the tide gets ... read more

Sure enough up and ready to go and no one at the motel not even to had in the key. So a bun each and we were off to the rocks. The morning was cloudy and cool, but we were determined to go. We walked down and I kept thinking boy I hope there is a shuttle back up lol, Fred as always sniffing all the way and excited to see where we were going. Once at the bottom it was a beautiful as I thought it would be. Then I could hear a strange noise coming from out in the water, and I could see the rain coming our way. We walked along the edge of the rocks while poured rain for a bit, once it let up we continued. Had it been nicer I ... read more

There are 2 motels near the rocks and the one did not take dogs so we ended up @ the Chocolate River motel. The rooms were clean, but other then a bed toilet, sink and tub, they didn't offer much. I knew going in that it was no where 5 star, but was hoping at least for a mini fridge lol. We then went to eat Tom had spotted a place on our way to the motel, so we went to check it out. Pauline's place was the name of the restaurant and there were several cars in the lot, so it looked promising. But unless you were a regular, they didn't seem to care about our business. We were group 3 of the 6 groups there, and watching the waitress with the others that lived ... read more
