Christmas Eve in Canada and we're off skiing at Lake Louise. It's Canada's 2nd largest resort, only roughly HALF the total size of Whistler/Blackcomb. Considering that it doesn't really get light until after 9am and gets dark around 4pm, it sure eats into the ski time! Add to that the logistics of gearing up with rental gear...we were on the slopes at about 11:30am! We were in the rental department (Lake Louise only has one rental outlet!!!) for close on, if not slightly more than, one hour. Lesson for Lozza Lauren likes getting lessons from me instead of the ski school. So I took her up the t-bar for the first ride and she did well getting up. The first few runs were slow and tentative, but she was getting the hang of it very quickly. ... read more

Well it looks like it's time for a road trip. The best part about this road trip is that I get paid to go on it. Let me explain..... The fairmont Jasper Lodge is having there Christmas party on wenesday and us at the Chateau are working for them so all the employees can make it to the party. So I guess I got picked to go along with four other dishwashers and a ton of servers. We get bussed out there on wenesday, work a couple ours and then get to drink with the Jasper staff which is pretty good since I have a couple friends there that went to Fanshawe with me. Then we get put up in the hotel for the night and bussed back to Lake Louise the next day. Not too ... read more

I know I know I haven't written more like I said I would but the internet guy never showed up some i'm still using the staff internet which is sooo slow and always busy. But soon enough i'll have my internet going. Well lately it just seems like everyone in my department is getting fired or quitting. In the past two weeks we've lost 10 dishwashers. 3 got fired for drinking on the job which sounds like a really stupid thing to do but everyone does it so I feel really bad for them. Not that we go on break and get hammered or anything. Just if there is a pitcher of beer left over from a party we get to drink it most nights. Well apparently that's over and there now putting there foot down. ... read more

Yeah the low for today is negative 33, the high is something like negative 27. I am bundled up so much right now I don't know where the layers stop and I began. I guess that's what you get for living on a mountain. I went boarding two days ago when the weather was similar and I thought I was going to get frost bite on the chair lift. The snowboarding is going well so far but I did take quite the spill on saturday which caused me to back out on my plans to board yesterday. This shouldn't suprise anyone who knows me because I tend to get hurt fairly easily and strapping both feet to a board and saying just slide down this mountain is like inviting injury. It's not that bad though don't ... read more

Today was the first day i've been able to hit the slopes!!!! I woke up bright and early to have a big breakfast to start the day, jumped on the shuttle and was off to the ski hill. After a quick stop to get my season pass picture taken we (Stacie and I) were off to check out snowboarding school. Unfortunatley the lesson had just started 15minutes prior so we decided that being the experienced snowboarders we are (between the two of us we had been 5 times) we would just take the gondola to the top of the mountain. Yes I know very smart idea. As the gondola continued up the mountain Stacie and I started to get a little nervous. It just kept going up and up and up and there was no end ... read more

Well after one long month of intense dishwashing I feel the need for a vacation haha. Us Shields' need our vacation time don't we dad. Next week i'm going to have four days in a row off (mon-thurs). They are actually making me take my stat holidays from rememberance day and some other holiday but i'm not complaining at all. Monday i'll be heading to Banff with my roommate and a couple other friends so they can pick up there snowboarding gear so that tuesday and wenesday we can hit the slopes for the first time. Everyone else has been out quite a bit already and i'm itching to get out as well but a bunch of us girls decided that we'll go together and take a lesson so i'm stuck waiting. Even the Aussie boys ... read more

Well I got in trouble from my mom for not posting in a while. Yes I am still alive i've just been entertaining my first guest in my new town. Sarah left two days ago and had a great little visit. We went to Banff a couple times since she had a car but mostly we hung around the hotel and I introduced her to all my new friends. Unfortunatley it was pretty cloudy the days she was here so the view of the mountains wasn't as good as it usually is. And another downer was that Miss Sarah McDonald lost my keys which cost over $100 to replace but other then that it was good times all around. The ski hills have been open for the last four days but I have yet to get ... read more

Well the frat boys have gone but the other day while eating in The Bean the news came on. Turns out the rowdiness of the frat boys caught the attention of the media. Our hotel was shown and everyone started hooting and hollering haha. It turns out that us hosting the frat boys weekend wasted the RCMP's time. It probably did we had them out here quite a bit but oh well it entertained me and that's all that matters. In other news a fight has broken out between two of my three roommates. My friend Stacie and our unusually feisty asian roommate have been getting on each others nerves for a while now and last night when Stacie used Emily's phone without asking all hell broke loose. There was an intense screaming match and at ... read more

First a little update on everybodies favourite frat boys. Well yesterday everything went to the dogs. There was an incident with a frat boy who had a little too much of something and an ambulance was called. Another bunch got arrested for posession of drugs and so the cops were all over the hotel and numerous rooms were completely trashed. Obviously the hotel took away there bar priviledges yesterday and they won't be allowed to come back after this. They also found out about how we are not allowed to associate with them so they started bets. $500 if they sleep with a regular collegue and $1000 if it's a manger or supervisor hahaha. There just nuts. I think they may be leaving today so the hotel will be back to normal and we'll have to ... read more
