Dubai
No problems getting into Dubai besides James being asked if he had a
blank cheque book by a very moody aiport official.
Our 3star hotel called country club hotel was a new build. Pretty much
all of dubai is new, being built or waiting to be built. We phoned
Musa james friend from work straight away and he kindly informed us it
was ramadan. Good timing! but a good thing to know. We had a lovely
sleep to combat the jet lag and met Musa. He kindly warned us about
ramadan etiquette. No carrying water during the day unless well
hidden, cover up and no food between 4am and 7pm. To break Musa's fast
we went to a lebanese resturant which was cheap and very good. The
soup was excellent and the food was in healthy portions. Brilliant. We
went next door to smoke some sheesha a mixed cocktail with loads of
tea. A very enjoyable way to spend a evening. Musa is a nice fella and
helped us a lot with Dubai knowledge even though he did get lost a
couple of times. We
then went to have tea in a bar as alcohol is tres
expensive. The heat in Dubai was ridiculous to cope with. Especially
when trying to cover up. Everywhere had air con but even walking about
at night was difficult when moving from place to place, we travelled
around in taxi which was the only way to get about in the evening but
they all have air con so not so bad. The second day we stayed in the
hotel watching a Leo di caperio film with him playing a commercial
plane tycoon. Not a bad film but I wouldn't reccomend it or watch it
again. As we didn't really have a plan to see the sights of Dubai, as
there is not much to see that can't be done at night and worth risking
sun exposure. So we decided to go for a swim in the hotel roof pool
the water was luke warm and only about 3 people were using it. I did
get locked in the changing room which scared the shit out of me for
pure embrassement sakes. The pool attendant had to
assist me whilst
only wearing a bikini. I'm sure that not allowed or in line with
ramadan. The same pool attandant watched while me and James had a swim
feeling uncomfortable and realising that the pool wasn't the cool
refreshing swim we hoped we got ready to meet Musa for our second
night in Dubai.
We started by visiting the Dubai mall. Where I found out later that a
English girl was Arrested for running around in a bikini. We travelled
by metro which has only been running since September last year.
Unfortunately the mall, one of the top places to see was not connected
and we had to get the metro and a bus. The mall puts the bull ring to
shame. It's grand and majestic in all aspects. every shop you could
ask for. An aquarium with a viewing tunnel, ice rink and a gold
quarter to name a few luxaries it has to offer. Outside is a lovely
lake with a great water and light show every half an hour. To break
Musa fast we had a Chinese which came in very small portons for
someone who is just breaking their fast ,a little dissapointing plus
we knew we were going to be having a good chuck of chinese food in
china as well but we also didn't want to walk around for ages. I mean
it couldn't be as bad as the meal we had at the hotel earlier which
was a rough chicken burger. After our Europe travel I vow never to
have a Chicken burger again unless it's from top nosh. After watching
3 light show we taxied off to the famous 7 star hotel. I can't
remember for the life of me now what it was called. We went to beach
and it looked very impressive the same as the tallest building in
dubai, well in fact the world. I'll edit the names in at a later date.
Definately the hotel was
My favourite building but I also liked the emiriates towers. We only
stayed their for 10mins took our tourist photos and got back into the
taxi. I must menton our taxi driver Ali l.
We met him on the first night and he vowed to take us back after our
meal but Musa was unsure he would as he told us His experience with
Dubai taxi drivers. The taxi driver he used before just vanished into
thin air. He wa reliable and then he wouldn't answer or phone Musa
back. To prove that Ali was a trusted taxi driver he waited untill we
finished our meal. Ali then waived us to get back to his cab, as were
staying for some smoking we told him to go, but he stayed and waited
patiently for us to finish when I say patiently..... There was a few
times he tapped on the window with a cheesy grin and a waive to temp
us to move. He agreed to take us around as a personnally taxi driver
which he said he would do for a special rate when the time came though
no special rates were given but he was an enjoyable company and he
took us to some fancy hotel to see golden horses and the palace wall.
After the hotel show we went to palm island to the most talked about
trendy mall. It was lovely bit we probably had our fill of malls by
this point. We then went to the emirates towers and found a small cafe
selling shesha. As Musa was hooked from last nights coctail mix. Again
a nice way to spend a evening more food wad ordered as the chinese did
not so the job of filling us up. Me and Musa has a mixed meat messa
which was lovely. I definately could of stayed in Dubai longer to
expolre the food options. James had a crepe.
From the cafe I had a lovely view of the emiraties towers which from
where I sat I could the side of one tower and the front on the other,
side by side very impressive.
We left Musa about 3am to go back and pack for our hong kong plane. We
had about an hrs kip and ended up getting up to go. I realised I has
left my only cardigian at last nights shesha bar. Quite upsetting. A
very tired abd possiable grumpy James and susan the boarded the plane
for some hong kong action
