Background: Ruled by the Al Thani family since the mid-1800s, Qatar transformed itself from a poor British protectorate noted mainly for pearling into an independent state with significant oil and natural gas revenues. During the late 1980s and early 1990s, the Qatari economy was crippled by a continuous siphoning off of petroleum revenues by the amir, who had ruled the country since 1972. His son, the current Amir HAMAD bin Khalifa Al Thani, overthrew him in a bloodless coup in 1995. In 2001, Qatar resolved its longstanding border disputes with both Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. Oil and natural gas revenues enable Qatar to have one of the highest per capita incomes in the world.

Leaving in 2 days and it looks like I'm "getting out" JUST IN TIME! I really don't know what's going on, well I do, and I definitely don't agree with it! Here is the current situation over here in the Gulf: Dubai has become this "vacationland" for adults (and children) but for both vacation and work it's been a thriving paradise. Wie ich ja schon fuer den Vortag erzahlt hatte, gibt es hier ein „Museum of Islamic Arts“. Ich bin also mit einem der beiden Mitbewohner, der andere musste arbeiten, dort hingefahren. Als wir dort angekommen sind, durften wir erst einmal erleben, was es heisst, „Geld fuer Kulturgut und Kunst auszugeben“. Nein. Der Eintritt ist vollkommen kostenfrei. Aber das Gebaeude ist so pompoes, das kann man eigentlich nicht erzaehlen. Das muss man erlebt haben. Zum Glueck darf man Fotos machen. Das ist hier uebrigens nicht die Regel. … Bitte was? Was ist das denn? Nein, das kann man nicht essen. Das ist ein typisch traditionelles katarisches Holzschiff, das frueher mit Segeln und heute mit Motoren betrieben wird. und sein Hammer. Das ist ein Testverfahren um die Festigkeit des Betons zu testen. Dieses Verfahren heißt Schmidthammer und ist im Prinzip ziemlich simpel. Man hällt die Aparatur, den sogenannten Schmidthammer an den Beton und löst ihn aus. Danach passiert irgendetwas im inneren des Gerätes (durch den Druck entsteht eine kleine Druckwelle, die di Dichte des Betons messen soll. Warum macht man sowas? Well I thought it would never arrive but what felt like the longest 7 weeks of my life are over and I'm now qualified to operate flights! Yippee! The last few weeks of training were just as intense as the first few. We spent half a week learning first aid which quickly proved to be the most challenging subject for me. We had to memorize all the medicines we keep in two different first aid boxes we carry on board. ...sollte man das Tippen einfach weglassen. Bei den letzten beiden Einträgen ist das Datum bitte genauer zu betrachten, denn bei denen habe ich nicht auf veröffentlichen, sondern auf speichern gedrückt. Egal. Ich weiß, ich habe mich lange nicht gemeldet, aber ich bin auch fleißig am Arbeiten. Inzwischen haben sich meine Sommerzeiten aufgrund von gesetzlichen Grundlagen geändert. So ist es in den Sommermonaten verboten zwischen 1200 und 1500 Uhr zu arbeiten. Gesagt getan. Ich muss also um 0530 auf der Arbeit sein. Um 1130 Uhr habe ich dann Pause. So exactly 5 weeks from today I will be getting on a plane homebound....finally!! I really can't wait - I've already sent a box home, have a bag of clothes to give away and have packed 1 suitcase (full of long sleeve shirts, pants, etc. that I def won't be wearin from now til June 23). ... wir kommen. Diesmal allerdings mit mir als Fahrer. Woran das lag? Das lag daran, das Sven im Urlaub war und ich seinen Kia Sportage bekommen habe. Das ganze fand am Freitag den 08.Mai 2009 statt. Aber fangen wir erstmal einen Tag vorher, also am Donnerstag, an. Dort war ich mit mehreren Leuten von Hochtief verabredet. Wir sind dann zum Interconti Hotel gefahren, da es dort eine Art Restaurant gibt, das Abends/Nachts zur kleinen Discothek umwandelt. .... not of the nature. Hier geht es also nicht um Bier, sondern um eine künstliche Region in Doha, mit mehreren kleinen Inseln. Obwohl wir jetzt schon Mai haben, war ich im April, nämlich dem 17.,dort und habe mir das angeschaut.
