Hi Gary,

You won't avoid the rain, july is monsoon all over India. For beaches, seems the obvious choice is Goa, but I've never been there...

Give us time for out kids to grow up....there are going to be teens before we see it!

Have fun!

Hi Gary,

India can be quite a "drenching" experience in monsoon, it rains quite heavily through the day and night specially in places like Mumbai and Goa.

Goa has beautiful beaches, but due to heavy rains all the shacks close from June 15 to almost end of August. Goa only picks up after 15th of October. Also, most of the beaches are closed bcoz its not considered safe to swim in them while it rains.

If you are not insistent on visiting beaches in India, then you may want to visit other places of tourist interest such as Rajasthan (very little rainfall) or Agra or some hill stations in North India or Central India. Rains in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh are unpredictable - you can have floods in some years and drought in some, so you may decide on your itinerary accordingly.

Thanks so much to every one for the good info it's very much appreciated , I did not know Goa closed down around then. We just might change our plans after all.

- If you had only a week in India(early july and it's your first time) where would you go? Reply to this

You can opt for the Golden Triangle - Delhi - Jaipur - Agra. It will be hot, but the trip is worth it.

You can also go for wildlife safari's or tiger trails to Jim Corbett National Park - Ranthambore National Park - Bandhavgarh National Park

Or you can visit hill stations like Rishikesh, Dharamsala or go to Leh - Ladhakh.

Hello Gary 😊

- Really no ice any where any time?

Sometimes if ice comes in the drinks, I drink them anyway. Some touristed places use bottled water to make the ice, but there are plenty of places that dont. And most foreigners get sick in India because of something they ate or drank.... Thailand is a bit more hygenic but still ice and water are a risk.

I have read some of the blogs about traveling with kid's haven't see a lot on teen girls?

Your daughers will likely be pestered by men in India. Ask them to dress conservatively to try to minimise this. You could also ask them to stay close to you and let anyone who is bothering them know that these are your daughters and they are to be left alone. Wearing bathing suits on the beaches in Goa might be OK(though there will likley still be harassment from men) because foreigners usually do, but in other parts of India they should choose clothes that cover them up a bit more.

What about trying Thailands beaches. I dont think your daughters will have any problems with harassment there. Reply to this

Thanks again, the more info the better it gets-
Don't get me wrong we love Thailand's beaches we've been there a few times now,and your right thai men are quite respectful it's the other tourists we have to watch out for (and we've never had a problem with the ice there either). But we really want to visit India this time while we are in Thailand. do you think it's worth just getting together with a tour company for the week?(I generally don't like being on long tours with others)
Is there a lot to see in Delhi or near by ? is it easy to get to Agra from there?
I am teaching them a few words in Hindi so they can fend off the men.
Thanks again everyone for the wonderful info. Reply to this

I dont like tours either. I would just go independently. I was there with my boyfriend and daugher for a couple of weeks at Christmas. We just travelled around ourselves. Buying the train ticket was a hassle but you could also buy them on the internet on the Indian train company website to avoid this if you want.

Is there a lot to see in Delhi or near by ? is it easy to get to Agra from there?

Yes and yes. Check out the photos on my Indian blog. We flew into Delhi, then we went to Agra, then Kurukshetra, then Haridwar to see the Ganges, than back to Delhi.

The trains go to Agra at times that are convenient for a day trip from Delhi. We however stayed there for a few days.

I am teaching them a few words in Hindi so they can fend off the men.

Not so sure that would be enough to fend them off. I would make sure they walk in front of you in the streets so you can give any stray hands comming their way a good slap. Though your presence may be enough to keep men away. People in India tend to behave a bit better with families than with single women travelling.
