Such glorious weather demanded a day at the beach, so the 3 of us set off, and Lynda came too. Also, 3 dogs. Destination - Barmouth. Quite a lot of people, but we found an unpopulated bit, and walked up on the hill after a swim. Not many people up there!!!... read more

Since a week of sunshine was forecast - and duly arrived - our neighbour, Glyn, persuaded the tractor and its once a year bits and pieces to pull together and see to the harvest. So here he is in action!... read more

Sophie arrived this afternoon for a couple of days in Wales, and since it was so lovely, we sat in the garden and caught up with the news. Later we popped down to Meifod to see the grandparents. ... read more

Alex and our neighbour Karen went down to Welshpool yesterday, for the first air show at our local air field (very small). There were lots of helicopters, but the Spitfires couldn't come because it was too windy for them to take off - lucky they didn't have windy days in 1940! Actually, they are getting on a bit now, and can't get the parts if a bit breaks. Anyway, a good time was had by all. ... read more

Yes, we really did it! And the plumber by luck found himself with a free week just when we wanted him, so was able to come straight away! We haven't used it yet, just waiting for the sealant to set. May have a go before I go to work. Hope all is well in the Antipodes. Sorry to say the cortisone didn't make much difference, trying acupucture and a specialist asap! Beb's letter much appreciated, and the phone calls. x x ... read more

We spent this morning clearing up the garden after heavy rain and wind over the weekend - most unseasonal. Then took Maisie for an hour through the woods, and came across a display of foxgloves, almost as spectacular as the bluebells. So here they are. And by the way, Mum has had a cortisone injection in her shoulder this evening, so lets hope that stops the pain for her. ... read more

Having checked with Mai that I could take a photo of the shop, here I am in the new polo top! Looking busy? Well, could hardly get a customer to take the picture - and we were very busy last night too. There was a running relay race passing through the village, that changed runners outside the shop, so they all called in for drinks and choc!... read more

Today being my day off, Mum, Alex and I set off for a jaunt round Welshpool. First stop, the Old Station - as its name suggests, it was once the station, but when they built the by-pass, they moved the rails, so the lines don't go near the platform any longer, and the station has become a shop, with cafe. On to Coed y Dinas to buy a money box for Alex's savings - a friend of mine told him she'd saved £500 in one like the one he chose. Does he realise you need to put the money in yourself? We tested out the sandwiches there. Then to the supermarket, the bank, pet shop and the plastic box shop! At last, home and a cup of tea. Dad had a lot of peace today!!!!!... read more

This morning Mum, Alex and I went for coffee at the Derwen garden centre. They sell good coffee - and nice lunches if its that time of day - as well as plants and garden stuff. But their best thing is the themed gardens they have planted. There are about 12, I think, all beautifully done, and you can go into all of them and see what they've chosen to plant there. But its a long way from the shop part, so we popped Mum into a wheelchair for the excursion. And then, the gravel was so deep that we couldn't really get her into the gardens. To give you an idea, there's a gothic garden, beach, italian, oriental, cottage, scented and lots I can't remember. It was a nice outing.... read more

Thought you might like to see these pics of our annual dawdle along the Montgomery canal. The "Monty" runs down to Newtown ( near us ) from near Llangollen, joining with the national canal network there, so you could - if you had time - journey to London and beyond by canal. It was built around 150 years ago, to bring in coal and limestone, and take woollen goods down to London. Believe it or not, mail order was started in Newtown, using the canal system. Anyway, to try and keep the canal open, all sorts of events are held, and the yearly dawdle is an institution. Alex has taken part for years, and has a stack of brass plaques to prove it! Anyone can take part, all sorts of boats are propelled along the 6 ... read more
