This has been one of the busiest weeks of my life! Not only did I have two huge massive enormous papers due and all this other work, Sean was here too! I'll have to break these stories down into two entries so people don't go crazy from reading the computer screen.
First the bad... school. I can't WAIT for another two weeks when it's over. Not that I don't love Uni I'm just not too fond of the work. I feel like I always get to this point in the semester and I don't want to do any more and my brain is friend. I swear if I have to look at another equation for how a glacier moves or how continents sit in the lithosphere I'm pretty sure I'll just keel over and that'll be the end of me. It's just frustrating because it feels like everyone somehow magically knows this stuff and I don't. Well at least that's what I thought and then I got my lab back and I got a 50 and everyone else had 30s. Now let me take this chance to say that a 50 is a decent grade here so no one panic
and think I'm failing horribly! 70 is amazing and an A, a 60 or 55 is a B and then a 40 is failing so somewhere in there is C and D too. It's kind of frightening to get stuff back and see a 55 on a paper but then I turn to all the other Americans who are freaking out and I feel better. The only thing that is very annoying is that it takes professors a million years to hand back papers. Even if there are 3 professors and 7 TAs they still can't hand back papers within a month’s time no matter what the size of the class is. Final exams take months, it's terrible. So now, enough school talk and now fun talk.
So Sean was supposed to arrive on Friday but his plane to Newark was really late and he missed his flight to Edinburgh. Actually his plane pulled up and he saw his next one right at the next gate... and then it backed up and flew away. He was pretty upset and tired and I was freaking out and called Continental but they couldn't do anything but stick him on the plane
for the next day. However they did think he was a little weird because I called. So he got here on Saturday and he was so tired that we just stayed home all day. I let him break the rule of not sleeping when you first get to Europe because he had basically been up for about 48 hours. On Sunday we went to the royal museum and ran some errands like getting food and stuff. Monday I had class all day but in the afternoon we went around the royal mile and princes street and george street and saw some sites! It was really windy this week so we couldn't ever stay outside for too long. Every night I basically had to go back and do work as I had papers due on Thursday and Friday and despite how much I tried I couldn't get them done before Sean came. Tuesday we went to the castle which was GREAT. Sean loved it more than anyone I had seen, it was like a kid at an amusement park or something. We went to the zoo one day which was really fun! Edinburgh has one of the largest penguin exhibits in
the world and there must have been about 100 penguins there. The zoo has a giant mountain in it though so it was a lot of walking but at the top there was a great view of the city.
We also go to see Melissa, my roommate from last semester. Her cousin goes to Uni full time so she was staying with him. Thursday night we went over to his flat and they cooked me and Sean dinner! It was all their own family recipies so it was really tasty homemade stuff (pork chops, mashed sweet potatoes with marshmallows, garlic bread...). It was really great to see another friend from home and we had so much to catch up on. Mel is living with all UConn students in Florence, Italy and with a few of our good friends so it was nice to hear about everyone. That weekend we all went out on the town to show Mel and Sean Edinburgh at night. However, it was a rugby weekend. Rugby is huge here, like how people go crazy for football but about 10 times more because all the games are in Edinburgh and everyone is drunk. It was Ireland
against Scotland and even though Ireland won and kicked Scotland out of the tournament it was still ridiculous. We went out the night before the game happened and it was still super super crazy. We had to wait even to get into the worst bars. So we didn't stay out too late because it was too busy to walk and Sean and I went to Loch Ness in the morning!
Okay time for a new entry so this doesn't start to hurt everyone's eyes.
