This past weekend Flaze rocked Women's Outdoor Nationals, taking 2nd place behind Leeds' Jedi. Our team was on fire (literally, thanks to my handy stenciling skills) and it showed. Flaze, a combined team of Loughborough's Haze and Nottingham's Random Fling, were strong, witty and had a blast of a weekend.

Heading up Friday night was a great plan, considering that we played 4 straight games on Saturday. On the Friday night we had a little mixer of spraypainting our kit in a car park and generally having a blast. We also had matching visors which was really fun.

Saturday was really really hot (for England at least) and we definitely felt it, using some sunscreen (the first time all year!!) and sweating lots. We lost our first game against Shimmy but came back to beat the next three teams in our pool (Skunks, Squawkeyes, and Phat 'Eds). We wouldn't know where we stood until Sunday morning, but we got to sleep in an extra hour (woo!) because we played four in a row on Saturday.

On Sunday we ended up 2nd in our pool (after some miscalculations and a great catch by Tom Stiles to make sure that
Yeah Flaze!Yeah Flaze!Yeah Flaze!

we were seeded 4th overall instead of 6th). Our Sunday games were really close and we played awesomely well against Sublime in quarters, WOW (Oxford) in semis, and ended up in the final against Jedi. We lost the final 10-4 but played really hard in the cold and rain. At least it waited to downpour until the end of the final, which was really nice of the clouds. 😊 It was a fabulous weekend of ultimate and I felt that I played really well, both handling and cutting as well as in the cup. I had a blast cutting off cuts on D. We totally deserved our spot and Jedi definitely deserved to win. However in comparison we totally rocked it...Jedi have been playing together for years, whereas Flaze had practiced together 3 times prior to nationals and look where we ended up??!?!?

This is what ultimate is all about....it's sooo much more than frisbee.
