I'm sitting in Birmingham Airport, god knows what time it is, currently haven't slept yet since yesterday morning, about to fly to Amsterdam then on to Delhi. My Check in consisted of me grunting through the questions, I have no vowels when I'm this tired. "Has anyone asked you to carry or are you carrying anything for someone else sir?" What type of question is that?? Who would do that "Yeah Someone gave me a box with 'Weapons grade Plutonium' written on the side of it, and my hair has started to fall out" I'm completely Knackered, the next log will be in India!!... read more

Well, other than a flight delay, aeroplane re-routing, bad cold, lost luggage and 35 degree temperature when I'm dressed for -5, my trip from Vancouver to Birmingham went off without a hitch. But here I am at my Aunty's house in Coventry, luggage found and trying to get over the jet lag. My aunty has also kindly taken me around to see some of the Midlands while I'm here - a quick trip around the old and new parts of Coventry, Warwick Castle (supposeldy one of the best in England - it's okay, but a bit kitsch for my liking) and a drive through the Cotswolds which really is just as quaint and twee as the photos make out. Went into London on Thursday to sort out bank accounts and fun stuff like that. The bus ... read more

So far: 799 miles in 13 days, at an average of 61 miles per day. And more than 14,000 metres of climbing - just on the bike - that's approaching twice up Everest. According to the Daily Mail it is set to be the wettest May on record. I can vouch for that. It has rained every day sometimes all day. At times it has been soul-destroying and incredibly frustrating. Now done 19 hills - adding Gloucestershire (Cleeve Hill) and Worcestershire (Worcestershire Beacon) to the list on Friday and Saturday. Weather on Cleeve Hill was awful. I've walked all over the hill in the past two years but still managed to get lost. Thick fog, blowing a gale and torrential rain. Everything I'm carrying, which isn't much, was soaking wet. On to Worcestershire Beacon in the ... read more

Ok, testing testing, one two, one two. I guess this must be working but it's my first attempt at a blog entry - but so far, so good it seems. Right, where to begin? Well, after weeks of waiting for the sale of our house to go through, the big day finally came on Tuesday (23rd May). Despite the best efforts of the buyers to screw us at the last minute for every possible penny, we signed the deeds and headed off to Birmingham to Glynn's parents' house. We'll only be here for a few days as on Saturday, we're finally off! That's right - Japan, baby! First stop is Tokyo for 7 days, then we move on to Kyoto, Hiroshima and finish up in Osaka. We're all booked up as far as accommodation goes and ... read more

Well after a crazy week of packing and last minute panics, we think we are finally there!! We have one last night at home before we head off to Heathrow tomorrow. Ollie decided that 4 jumpers for South East Asia was a little excessive and after trying to negotiate which ones to take, Ollie won and my bag has now got lots of room (but i'm sure i will fill this gap once i hit the markets and shops hehe!) Well i have had a lovely week at home seeing as many friends and family as possible. Ollie's mom and dad joined us for our last weekend, and what do you do when you have visiters from Devon, you take them for a curry. Saturday night was our 'Leaving Party night', i think we can quite ... read more

Another entry and another twist on the journey. This time I'm tapping out a mesage from an internet terminal on an indutrial estate back in the UK. I'm back in Britain and it's surprised me to be here. After all, I'd planned to explore more islands and then make my way to Malaysia. However, it seems fate has a different route planned for me and I received some news that made such fripperies as clothes shopping and bird watching seem inconsequential. My mom is very ill right now and it seemed the best thing to come back to England to try and be of use back at home. I have learned in a short space of time that we really have to take each day as it comes and be thankful for whatever we have already. ... read more

I'm still in sunny Birmingham at the moment, and making some final preparations for flying on Thursday morning. I reckon I've got most things ready, but I'm sure to have overlooked something massive. Although this is likely to change dramatically, my rough itinery is as follows: * 24th March: arrive in Bangkok * Up to 2 months around Southern Thailand * 23rd April at the latest, Cambodia for two to three weeks * Early to mid May: Southern Vietnam, moving North for around 6 weeks. * Late June/early July: Loas for a few weeks * 23rd July at the earliest, Northern Thailand, moving back to Bangkok * 22nd August: Fly home It'll be interesting to see how accurate this turns out to be, but I'm hoping to stay pretty flexible (ho... read more

Ok! So if you can read this, then I've got my head around how to use this program. That's a start and I guess I have to start somewhere... I leave on Saturday and I just received an email from my Malaysian, Saint Martins, street fighting friend, Lenny. By pure 'coincidence' he's going to be in Bangkok this weekend so once I touch down, I will meet up with him (hopefully!). What a nice way to arrive and to get acclimatised.... read more
