April 2nd 2006

Another entry and another twist on the journey. This time I'm tapping out a mesage from an internet terminal on an indutrial estate back in the UK. I'm back in Britain and it's surprised me to be here. After all, I'd planned to explore more islands and then make my way to Malaysia. However, it seems fate has a different route planned for me and I received some news that made such fripperies as clothes shopping and bird watching seem inconsequential. My mom is very ill right now and it seemed the best thing to come back to England to try and be of use back at home. I have learned in a short space of time that we really have to take each day as it comes and be thankful for whatever we have already. ... read more

Swadika. As they say here. Which could mean any number of things but for now I believe it means hello. So much stuff has happened since I last posted a blog that to condense it down to a short piece is not doing it justice, but quick highlights include: Meeting lots of friends from London and a couple of old original 1977 punks (who are both fully reformed but gave me a whole bunch of insights into the Sex Pistols and strangely enough a young Vivienne Westwood), being harrassed by a very persistant lady boy (pre operation im told), and various other adventures. Or maybe I should mention my first kick boxing class the other day. I was really looking forward to it, an 8am start on the beach. Unfortunately I forgot to go to bed ... read more

Greetings from paradise. Seriously. After the last blog update I walked to a little hostel reccommended by my travel book and I have to say ... its perfect! Its a wooden hut with a straw roof hidden in amongst all kinds of beautiful and exotic flowers. Its right on the beach which again is perfect! The water is transparent and as hot as a bath. Which suits me cause my hut has only got cold water. But everything else is so spot on. After sitting in my room for about two minutes I decided that I will stay here for a month or so. In fact I am currently turning my hut into a little art studio. I have been drawing pictures all day and exercising on the beach at 7am. I have met lots of ... read more

Good morning from the tropical island of Ko Samui! I have just arrived by plane at a small island off the coast of southern Thailand called Ko Samui. Its a pleasant affair -- the airport is a series of wooden huts and I'm off to find a cheap beachfront wooden hut bungalow for the duration of my stay here... how long that will be I'm not sure. But I don't think it will be a problem -- the sea is jade green and the sand is white. Plus I have found a new obsession.... muay thai kick boxing. Let me explain... last night I had a ring side seat at Bangkok's biggest weekly muay thai kick boxing competition. And it was absolutely incredible... just to set the scene slightly, behind me was a steel cage and ... read more

hello... I have arrived in bangkok safe and sound and although I felt like I was in 'Lost in translation' I am now over the jet lag and have reluctantly settled into becoming a backpacker. For the first two nights i was on the 28th floor of a beautiful hotel overlooking Bangkok. I didnt realise quite how beautiful it was at the time cause tonight i'm in a room for backpackers behind the Kao San Road (which is like Oxford Street crossed with Ibiza's West-End but with dreadlocks and sandals). Theres not even an electric socket but it certainly won't cost as much as what i have so far caned in room service and sea food. In fact I have just eaten a meal for about thirty pence which tasted really good. well... it was ok.... ... read more

Ok! So if you can read this, then I've got my head around how to use this program. That's a start and I guess I have to start somewhere... I leave on Saturday and I just received an email from my Malaysian, Saint Martins, street fighting friend, Lenny. By pure 'coincidence' he's going to be in Bangkok this weekend so once I touch down, I will meet up with him (hopefully!). What a nice way to arrive and to get acclimatised.... read more
