It seems like only a few days ago that mum announced her plans to travel to the UK and Europe....really that was about six months ago and time has gone very quickly. Mum arrived on the 15th and got herself up to Manchester on a bus. In true Fay style she hit the ground running and has not stopped since. Even the 24 hours or so on a plane then 6 hour bus ride was not enough to stop her from getting started on her European adventure. We visited the Manchester museum the day she arrived followed by a traditional British curry for dinner.
The next day Fay and Kirstyn set off in Clancy for a tour of the Lakes District spending the first night camped behind a real british pub on Lake Coniston. Day two was spent climbing the Langdale Pikes...a walk that we had done previously in snow. It was a bit different this time but still just as enjoyable. Kirstyn struggled to keep up with Fay and her knees paid dearly for the steep descent for several days afterward.
Day three of the adventure inlcuded a trip to Dove Cottage, where Wordsworth wrote most of his
Big feast
Fay's first pub meal with real Ale work, and more spectacular Lakes District views. We camped the night on a dairy farm then set off for a look around Keswick the next day. A trip to the Beatrix Potter Museum was obligatory and much enjoyed before we headed over the motorway to the Yorkshire Dales. We stayed the night behind yet another pub (theme starting here....) at Hardraw. Enjoyed a HUGE dinner here and some pints with the locals. Fay trialed her first British Ales but ended up on the cider (still very British) after two! The next morning we headed up to have a look at Hardraw Force....flowing much heavier than when we visited earlier in the year. Due to the large amounts of rain we headed over to see Aysgarth Falls also.....so much water!!!
We made it back to Manchester in time for dinner with Jason and time to start preparing to leave Manchester behind for good. We left Manchester on the Saturday after Clancy had a visit to the mechanics for a service and mum spent the day visiting the sights of Liverpool (still no rest for the new UK traveller!).
First stop was Whitby for take two of Kirst's bungy jump
experience. Not to be however as once again extreme winds caused a cancellation and alas Kirst is still bungyless. Fay spent the night in glamourous accomodation up in the farmhouse while Kirst and Jas roughed it out in the storm out in the paddock. The next day Fay did a whirlwind tour of Whitby before we headed off down the coast with a surprise visit to Bempton Cliffs so Fay could see some Puffins. They performed very well and we managed to see quite a few up close on the cliffs despite the gale force winds!
Stayed the night at an old farm just out of York belonging to a couple of very eclectic old aristocrats (probably a bad assumption but seemed to fit with our basic knowledge) and spent the morning exploring the old town once again before heading down to see Sherwood Forest and the famous 'tree' where Robin Hood supposedly hid from the evil Sherriff of Nottingham.
We left Fay in London with Liz (Mason...cousin - thanks Liz!) and her two adorable children where she managed to get her fix of babies nursing little Amira every spare minute she got over the next few days!
We spent two nights in London giving us time to que for Wimbledon tickets the next day, spending a day in the sun before heading off to Glastonbury.
