Yes your read correctly, your eyes are not deceiving you, I’m talking sport … Maria pick yourself up off the ground, Kelly I hope you’re proud of me supporting your favourite team.
Tonight, thanks to my friend Scott from work who had a spare season ticket, I made my way to the hallowed Old Trafford/Manchester Unit stadium.
The stadium is massive (we had to walk up at least 6 flights of stairs), seats 76,000+ (tonight falling 35 short of that figure) and even though we were high up on the Stretford stand, we still ad an awesome view of the whole pitch (field?).
At half time it was nil all both sides, the first half saw Man Utd monopolise the play and make several attempts at goal but falling short at each opportunity.
Surprisingly there was no half time entertainment but clearly the Man Utd squad took some good Powerade as they came out firing for the second half.
Barely minutes into the second half, Ronaldo scored the first goal and from there it was a Man Utd bloodshed with goal after goal, finishing up with 6 goals to Newcastle’s nil score and even better, Ronaldo
made his first hatrick (and Ronaldo was definitely man of the match, it was great to see his fancy footwork in action).
With each successive goal, the euphoria just kept increasing and by goal 4 or 5 even I was screaming my lungs out and joined in on the Ronaldo chant.
As you’d expect, the Mancunian crowd were mental (though not at all violent) and were as entertaining as the match itself. The chanting was almost deafening at times and the bits I could hear clearly were quite witty and entertaining (see below).
A big boo came when Mark Viduka got subbed onto the Newcastle side, not only is the ex Aussie playing for Newcastle but he previously played for Leeds, a definitely no go with the crowd.
I had an awesome time and am almost (but not fully) converted! I’d have to say that although the crowd were awesome, the match itself (and remember this is the first time I’ve ever seen a footy/soccer match) was not as exciting as I remember the old Wildcats matches (back in their heyday) but probably more exciting than the only Aussie Rules match I’ve been (no not AFL
but old skool WAFL match West Perth v East Perth back in the late 80s).
Alright, enough sport talk (probably the last time you’ll ever hear me talk sport!!!).
The last two weeks have been fairly quiet, still haven’t bee to any gigs since mid December. But don’t worry (as if you were) as I went out and bought a stack of tickets for gigs over the coming months.
We had our first snow the other week, definitely not what you’d call a snow storm but from my desk I could see flakes of snow falling outside
Also been booking some travels, Marrakech is coming up this weekend, the following weekend I will be in Dublin and then a fortnight after that its Stockholm in Sweden.
Hope you are all well, don’t forget to add your comments or send me messages, love to hear how things are going with you all.
Pete
Man Utd chants:
One for Newcastle:, even I was singing this one on the way home from the match:
To the tune of Daydream Believer:
Cheer up Kevin Keegan,
Oh what can it mean,
to a Sad Geordie batard,
and a Shite football team.
One for the legend that is Christiano Ronaldo:
He plays on the left,
He plays on the right.
That Boy Ronaldo,
Makes England look shite!
To the tune of 'Take Me Home, Country Road' (John Denver should never ever be sung to!):
Take me home, United Road,
To the place, I belong;
To Old Trafford, to see United;
Take me home, United Road.
Not the most intelligent of chants but rather effective and easy to remember:
We all h8 leeds scum
We all h8 leeds scum
We all h8 leeds scum
This one was a bit too harsh for my liking (god they hate Man City and Liverpool!)
Sung to the tune: Oh my darling Clementine:
Build a bonfire,
Build a bonfire,
Put the Scousers on the top,
Put City in the middle,
And we'll burn the f’ing lot
