A good nights sleep was just what I needed and was just what I got. We woke up around 0830 and left the hotel at 0900 bound for the Crystal Palace Station, a 30 minute walk away. Paul, Jen and Caitlin had an appointment by Shoreditch Station so we caught the train there and had breakfast in a cafe before strolling the surrounding streets. Paul texted me to say they'd been delayed but suggested a cafe to fill in some time and we used Google Maps to find "Look Mum, No Hands" a cycling themed cafe and repair shop that was a little quirky and served good coffee. I used the time to try and catch up on this blog and nutted out a few days worth of dribble. Paul led the way through the streets ... read more

So what do you do when you know your time is running out in London? We had plenty of things to do on the boat, but we also knew we were going to Chatham Marina where work could continue on the boat, so…. You guessed it, we continued to spend time walking around London and even got to some new places we hadn’t been before. Those of you that have followed our blog know that we are a sucker for a market. We heard about the Petticoat Lane market full of inexpensive clothes to buy, the flower market on Columbia Street and the markets down in the Brick Lane & Limehouse area so we of course had to go. The big day for the market is Sunday so we headed out and did plenty of walking, ... read more

We have been keeping pretty low key in London since returning from our trip to Bath. There had been quite a few hard wind and rain storms that had gone through while we were gone and it didn’t seem to let up. The weather can switch quickly from a partially sunny day to a real rainy day. We have learned to always carry our umbrella with us, unfortunately with the high winds we don’t want our umbrella to end up like all the other broken ones laying around in the streets. With the wind the boat moves around at the dock much more than normal. Just a “gentle” reminder that we do live on a boat! The other day we were walking down the street and we noticed that the number of tourists seems to have ... read more

Just after getting back from visiting friends in Germany we had visits from two sets of friends here in London. George, Heather and their son Alistair were able to make it to Tsamaya for a dinner. We first met them when we were in Botswana and haven’t seen them since 1986 when we visited their home outside of London. Alistair we last saw in 2002 in Trumansburg when he spent a gap year in the US. Two days later we connected with John and Jan, friends that we had made the first year we were cruising. We met them in Stuart, FL and enjoyed both Christmas and New Year’s with them. Fortunately for us they were visiting family in the London area and made arrangements to stop by for a visit. It is always nice to ... read more

We know that we have been late with getting a blog update, but we have been busy as you will see from the photos. London is definitely a place that has activities going on all the time –the challenge is to figure how to fit it all in! Since getting back from Malvern we have been able to listen to excellent music, make it to a few museums, catch up with cruising friends we had met early as well as make new friends here. We have been able to see the annual Lord Mayor Show which included seeing the Tower Bridge open. Saw a Christmas tree lighting at one of the many locations in town. Took advantage of a couple of talks being given on various places we want to cruise and planned a trip to ... read more
