Ciao! Just under 3 weeks to go now and I can't wait! I had a skype interview this week for a job that starts in September, after this first one finishes, so fingers crossed! And my Thomas Cook card finally arrived!! Phoned the Inland Revenue and Student Loan Company this week, to let them know I'm moving abroad, and it turns out they don't write your student loan off if you live abroad for a certain amount of time. Instead I have to fill in loads of forms for both companies, so thinking it might be easier to fake my own death?! Only got 8 shifts left at work, so spending the next couple of weeks trying to see as many people as possible to say good bye. Anyway still got to learn as much Italian ... read more

Hello all! Just under 4 weeks to go now! Booked my weekend in Rome at the end of May to celebrate my 25th birthday (going to be a 1/4 of a century!!), including a one day trip to Pompeii. Looking forward to that, although coordinating flights with my friend who is travelling in from London to meet me in Rome was a major hassle. Also discovered the joys of vacuuming packing this week as I was seriously running out of space in my case till Sau helped me move everything about, might be slightly over the weight limit but you can't win them all! Still waiting for my Thomas Cook travel money card to arrive, I hope it hasn't got lost in the post! Anyway so much still left to do, so I'm going to go ... read more

Hello lovers, Been busy this week checking off my 'things to do before I go' list! Managed to get my insurance sorted finally and I've ordered my Thomas Cook travel money card (because apparently Traveller's cheques are sooooo last year)! Also had to order a new bank card from HSBC because my current one expires in October and I definitely plan to still be in Italy then. Started my packing yesterday as I have paid to take 2 bags with me, a 70 litre back pack and a big suitcase. Starting to panic a bit as both are almost full and I've still got stuff left to pack! Think I might have to vacuum pack my clothes, but worried they might explode on the plane?! (If anyone has any advice on this please let me know). ... read more

Hello people of the world! Finally I have some news to report... I HAVE A JOB! It is in Turin, which is North Italy and on one side you have the mountains and on the other side you have the beach. So I best start stocking up on bikinis and ski boots! I have also booked my flight, leaving on the 5th May at 7.10 am, my mum's going to love having to get up at 3 am to drive me to the airport. My flight number is 464 if anyone wants enbark in a last minute frantic chase to the airport and declare their love for me (don't all rush at once)... The family seem really nice (and I should know I spoke to a lot of psycho mum's in the process), there are 3 ... read more

Ciao fellow followers! I know it's been a month since I last posted, but nothing has really happened to be honest. I'm still looking for a job, although getting a lot more offers through now it's getting closer. Don't know if I'm being too picky, but want to make sure I get it right! Fingers crossed it will all be sorted and finalised in the next few weeks! Everything I was selling on Amazon on Ebay has gone now, apart from one last book! My dad even came today to put all the bits I want to keep into storage so the wheels are in motion. Will keep you posted on my progress, just waiting for people to get back to me grrrr... Arrivederci! Soph XxX... read more

Hello again, So a week has passed since I returned from my first voyage to Roma and I am back to looking for jobs... again!! Decided not to take the au pair job I went out there for last week, the woman wanted me to work too many hours and weekends and basically wanted a slave/mother for her daughter rather then a babysitter. It probably didn't help that the little girl spoke very limited English which would make it very difficult to communicate with her, especially given the long hours we would have been spending together (especially as she's not allowed to watch TV?!) So that's pretty much what's been happening this week. To be honest I wasn't mentally or financially ready to go so soon anyway, any jobs that come up now I'm going to ... read more

Hello again, So I started signing up to au pair agencies last week, completed one application on Tuesday night and Wednesday night had a phone call from a lady in Italy! We've been skyping throughout the week and she has invited me to visit her in Italy this weekend to meet her and her daughter. Very excited as never been to Rome before, but also terrified as I have a massive fear of flying. Also heard back from two families in America and one in France, but going to see how this weekend goes first. It all seems so surreal to me at the moment as it is going so quickly, only passed my TEFL course last weekend and I already have an interview! So wish me luck and I'll let you all know how it ... read more

Hello all! Completed the last part of my TEFL qualification this weekend with 20 hours of in-class time. It was intensive and at times quite repetitive of what I had already bee doing online, but it was nice to meet fellow TEFLers and hopefully we will all keep in touch on Facebook, as everyone was going to different places. Spent today updating my CV and looking online to see what positions are currently available in Rome, most want character references, passport photos and a medical note from a doctor saying that you are fit and healthy, so want to get that all sorted this week so I can start applying to some agencies for work. Anyone thinking about doing the TEFL course should so just do it, even if you don't use it straight it away ... read more

Hello lovers, Well another year has begun and having been unlucky in love once again, I am sticking 2 fingers up at England and packing my bags heading for sunnier, adventure filled pastures. The plan is to move to Rome a bit later this year, aiming for the end of May, but that is dependent on securing a job and somewhere to live. Already sold most of my possessions on Ebay and Amazon and after I complete my TEFL course next weekend I am all set to start applying for jobs in Rome teaching English. Started teaching myself a bit of Italiano already (Mi Chiamo Sophia), but looking forward to immersing myself in the Roman culture and learning the lingo proper like. Once I have a better grasp on the language I will try to get ... read more
