Blockley is located south of Chipping Campden. One of the attractions of Blockley is Mill Dene Garden, which was established at the former mill on the slope. The Mill Dene Garden has a number of attractive garden features - roses climbing on the ropes tied with timbers, rose pergolas, trellis with old roses and clematis, flowerbeds thriving with old roses, foxgloves, peonies, lupins, etc, the lawn garden with the doll of a cricket player, marble grotto, and potage garden on the top of the valley garden, to name just a few. Gardeners regularly put new plants and maintain the borders and flowers, and plumbers maintain watercourses and pond. The highlight is a Mill Pond, which is the last destination of the route. There are a lot of attractive aquatic plants, e.g. lilacs and flowerbeds with lavenders, ... read more

...The Journey Begins So finally the day has arrived! I am flying out this evening from Birmingham airport and am extremely excited! Its been a long time coming but the last few weeks seem to have galloped by at a rather frightening pace and the date that I have been quoting to all has finally arrived! The British summertime has begun with a vengence (gutted as I was quite looking forward to leaving dreary grey grisley weather behind and stepping off the plane to clear blue skies and sunshine - however as it is clear blue skies and sunshine here really hoping that I don’t get it the other way round and step into a monsoon in Bangkok!!). I have already got sunburnt (cider and bright sunshine make Laura a silly girl…. Must remember suncream in ... read more

Day 10: Mon, May 7th After the fantastic breakfast at our great B&B, we jumped in our car to drive the short distance to Stow-on-the-Wold (one of the most popular Cotswold towns). But today was a Bank Holiday, and there was some kind of Equestrian thing going on. So, Stow was sooo crowded! We couldn’t find anyplace to park, and the streets were jammed full of cars and people. So, we just drove back to Broadway. We then walked, out of Broadway, about a mile of “The Cotswold Way.” It did start to sprinkle a little (first day of rain). The scenery was great, all green fields over gently rolling hills with adorable towns scattered around. After walking back into Broadway, we shopped around the local farmers market. I bought some amazing fudge, omg, sooo good! ... read more

Chipping Campden is one of the loveliest small towns in the Cotswolds and a gilded masterpiece of limestone and craftmanship. A feature of its beautiful High Street is the 17th century Market Hall. The main street curves in a shallow arc lined with a succession of ancient houses each with it's own distinctive embellishments. As the name suggests (Chipping means market) Chipping Campden was one of the most important of the medieval wool towns and famous throughout Europe. This legacy of fame and prosperity is everything that give the town it's character. Campden is quite possible an old Saxon term that means fields, which must have been an encouraging sign for the local sheep that once dominated the area. ... read more

Winchcombe – Broadway 1998 August 11 This was a day of villages and fields. We started at Winchcombe for the short walk to Hailes Abbey . Destroyed during the persecution of Roman Catholics by Henry VIII, the building is now a picturesque ruin. Nearby, the older Hailes Parish Church still has original wall paintings and tiles (restored) We crossed a few fields and came across a village. For the whole day. There were sheep in fields, cows in fields, one set of horses in a jumping practice field, wheat fields, harvested fields, fallow fields, and fields of indeterminate grass. We almost saw Peter Pan, or at least we visited url=https://www.greatbritishgardens.co.uk/gloucestershire/item/st... read more
