Hello friends,
As you can see I am still here. As I am not currently traveling, I thought an entry in a TRAVEL blog might be rejected by the website, but I've had a request so I thought I'd risk it. Still kippping at Gran's, if you don't know where teignmouth is google it! Nice location, right on the sea (bit too cold to swim now though) and in the middle of a little town full of fish and chips shops and charity clothing shops, which is fitting for a girl with 3 outfits and little money. Have managed to accumulate a bunch of 'stuff', not sure where it's all come from, but I might need another bag on return to the states. Finally ditched my travel jeans after realizing ever step i took rubbed more holes into the crotch. First weekend here muse played, so I bartended and watched for free!
Have found 3 jobs:
1. Working in a care home cleaning up old people.
2. Visiting old people in their homes and cleaning them up.
3. Bartending at a holiday campsite (mainly getting old people drunk).
So clearly doing my part to make devon a better
my back doorthen i don't have to walk through old people in the hallways
place. You might have noticed a trend - Teignmouth is the florida of england but colder and rainier and smaller. Pop round to see Oma when I can - easier to stay at gran's because I can walk everywhere. My shoes are worn out. My bike (borrowed from aunt glynis) has a flat tire and I do not have a puncture repair kit.
Have made 3 friends. Don't want to spread myself too much into england or it will miss me when I'm gone. But I do socialize. Like guiness and cider and lager and lime. Failed at pub quiz the other night, apparently I don't know english/ general knowledge trivia. Also have trouble resisting things sold in shops like mince pies and christmas cake and cadburys chocolate that silly english people take for granted but I know I won't be able to have once i leave.
Have been keeping note of invaluable life advice from gran on things such as jobs, money, my love life, family, social classes, mainly who to marry (nice english doctor from london). Keeping my eyes open...
Speaking of leaving... still no decided date, but seeing as no med schools have as
of yet begged me to come to them I can stay here for as long as I want, but plan on being home for christmas, mainly for daddy's chunky gravy and a good old mertens family dinner brawl. Have started picking up a devon accent, say things like: 'hiya' (hi), 'i'n it?' (isn't it?) and 'alright love?' (hello). Have wondered why customers want cork with their bacardi. Continuously almost get hit by cars because I look the wrong way first.
Best of wishes to all, send your number if you want to request a skype call from me. Miss most of you!

Wonderful to hear from you again!! Your mother keeps me informed of everything happening in your busy life, and as I have said before, you have a future in writing, so keep it up!! You have brightened my day once again with laughter at all your comments! Hope to see you at Xmas!! We love and miss you!
Didn't realize from the pics of you and Fish how very English your looks are until these pictures, Av. Well, it is interesting to see how one will eventually look as we age, but I have to say that you look beautiful. And it's a lovely place to stay. Forget Florida, all you see there these days are visitors from Bundesland aka Germany. (My grandmother was from London, btw, and I'm accused of looking English by those familar with the features.)(The rest of my family is mostly Brittish with a spot of German thrown in for variety, lol.) What fun you get to work at the pub. I imagine the old folks you help have lots of fun with the American girl, lol.
Hi Avalon: So glad you wrote again. I was wondering if you were still away from the USA. I'm sure all your friends here miss you. Love the pics.......Laura's mommy :)
