In our previous travels people we have met from Holland, have been good fun. They certainly travel more than many other Europeans we’ve met. Our next 2 campsites we visited were run by Dutch owners, they were to play a part in our long drive up Spain’s Mediterranean coast. Having abandoned Plan A visiting Cordoba, Granada and increasingly the likelihood that Barcelona would go the same way because of the heat. Enter Plan B, to travel and camp near the coast picking up, hopefully, more of the cool sea breeze. Our first hoped stop was Marbella, the holiday destination for the super-rich. Suzy is on the move again . It's almost a week since we left home and it is now over the border to Spain. Even in Spring Spain looks in this part to be an arid land. A landscape slightly lunar like and devoid of farm animals or fields of green crops. Rocky outcrops looked pink in the sun and the grass has already died. Heaven knows what it will be like in the height of summer. For a while we followed the never ending ribbon of tarmac with the sea to one side of us - the Costas. That area loved by some sun worshipping Brits who love tea like mother makes, All English bars serving English beers, all day Breakfasts, Fish n Chips and wall to wall sunshine. Wir sind seit Montag in Peniscola. Der Campingplatz ist nur 100 Meter vom Meer entfernt. Die Plätze sind nicht besonders gross, aber die Lage, nahe der Altstadt ist ideal. Wir werden hier ein paar Tage bleiben. Leider ist seit heute das Wetter schlecht. Es weht ein starker Wind und von Zeit zu Zeit regnet es. Ab Donnerstag sollte es aber laut „eltiempo.es“ wieder besser werden. Peniscola ist ein beliebtes Touristenziel. Die Altstadt und die Burg liegen auf einem 64 Meter hohen Felsen über dem Meer. Peniscola zählt rund 4200 Einwohner. In der Hochsaison sollte diese Zahl durch Feriengäste auf über 150'000 anwachsen, Wahnsinn. Allgemein bekannt ist Peniscola durch die zwei Gegenpäpste von Avignon welche hier residierten. 1411 verlegte Benedikt XIII. seine Residenz in die Burg Peniscola.
