Well, it has been a really great weekend in Madrid. I spent Saturday walking around Madrid with a friend I met at the hostel. We went to the Egyptian Temple, near Plaza de Espana, which is located in a beautiful park that has excellent views of the city. I finally took a few photos! Then we went to the parque de buen retiro, and took a little row boat out onto the lake. It was a beautiful day and the sun was shining and it was great to be out on the lake. We rowed out to the front of the big masoleum there and took more photos. Then we had lunch and went to the Reina Sofia museum. My friend had never seen Guernica, so I took him to see that. Later in the evening ... read more

What a week!!! So many things have happened that instead of feeling like I've just been here for 1.5 weeks it feels more like 3 .... It's been a wild ride but I'm finally at the point where I've reached a very calm content so glad to be here state of mind. I had a very overwhelming first day at Torres Quevedo, the school I will be assisting at for the next 10 months. There are 4 classes I help with, along with Nikki, the other American girl (from San.Fran.Cali) at my school (through Fulbright, different program), but it totals about 80 whining, screaming, squirming, nose-picking 6 to 7 year olds. And it is a completely different atmosphere in each class room. The discipline is completely lacking, minus the Juan!Que haces!?Why are you doing that? which ... read more

Two days gone already. Time goes by fast when you are traveling. My first day here in Madrid was a little rough. I was really tired from the trip, and starting to wonder if traveling by myself was the best idea. I just felt a little lonely. I walked around the center of Madrid, near Sol, most of the day, had lunch, and coffee, and read my book. I hung out in the common room of the hostel and read, but didn´t really meet anyone that day. Everyone had a laptop and seemed very absorbed in what they were doing. I felt a little disappointed, I thought people would be more outgoing and friendly. But, I realized that maybe I was just tired and that I would feel better the next day. So I spent the ... read more

So the best place to begin is at the beginning I suppose so let me start by thanking you for your time in reading my blog about my adventures abroad. My time already spent in Madrid, Spain has been interesting to say the least. Just to give you a little background I am from little old Bozeman, Montana and let me clarify before we begin that we actually do have cars and yes there is a possibilty of more cows than people in the state. I attend Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA but I decided to take my adventures abroad with Saint Louis Univeristy in Saint Louis, Missouri. I am currently studing in the university in Madrid which has about 600 students ranging from American students to European students to permanent students that come from both ... read more

I just wrote a huge entry, and then my internet died :'( Update! I just bought my plane ticket home yesterday. I'm flying out of Shannon the 17th of July. I got a really great deal through cheaptickets.com. I'm flying into Dublin the 7th of July, just right after I get my last paycheck, and then spending a week travelling Ireland with Ali and hopefully Kastin and Pablo. I'm excited to see a country I have family ties to! For that reason, I really want to visit England, Scotland, and Germany. There's something neat about seeing places your family a long time ago came from. My first week of work was awesome. I have really nice and motivated students, and I really enjoy going to work. I get paid very well, too. I really can't complain ... read more

Kom endelig ... read more

Well, I am in Madrid. My trip felt sooo long. First, Reno to Philadelphia, stay the night in Philly. Then I was at the airport six hours early today, because I had to check out of the hotel by noon. So I hung around the airport reading until my flight to Madrid. (I´ve already read two books.) We waited on the plane for over an hour before we even took off, with no explanation at all from the pilot as to what was going on. I hate flying, it is such a hassle. Also, I haven´t flown an airline besides Southwest for a while, and the seats on US Air had almost no leg room, it was horrible. But, no one was sitting in the seat next to me, so I was able to stretch out ... read more

So I've been to Spain a lot, but I've never seen a bullfight. As a matter of fact, neither have most of my Spanish friends. The majority of young people here don't believe its right. I completely understand why, however, after witnessing it myself, I think the cultural importance of it outweighs the cruelty to the bull. You are free to disagree with me on that one though. A bullfight, or corrida de toros (which more accurately translates into running of the bulls) consists of 6 different individual bullfights. There are 3 matadors (or toreros in Spanish) and each fights 2 bulls, one at a time of course. So its more like you go and watch 6 different bullfights. Each bullfight is broken into thirds. In the first, or the Tercio de Varas, the bull enters ... read more

Hey guys, sorry that we have become slack with the travelblog. It has been written for a while but we haven´t had the time to type it. We are currently in MUNICH! So i´ll fill you in on the places we have been since Barcelona. Granada We had the best time in Granada thanks to Ange´s cousin Alan, who is studying Spanish and Flamenco guitar there - he was our personal tour guide. Granada was a really interesting city, as it is a mix of Arabic and Spanish cultures. This is because the Moors settled the city, which was then conquered by the Catholics. Of course we visited the Moorish palace called the Alhambra, which was apparently voted the 4th wonder of the world recently. The palace and gardens were extremely beautiful and took us over ... read more

My ten month adventure is on a roll,a giant, speed gathering roll. I arrived to Madrid Tuesday the 25th to perfect weather and an optimistic outlook. I flew quite lovely on British Airways with my own tv screen & surprisingly good meals. However it was bloody cold leaving the plane in Gatwick. My hostal was perfectly located in the center of downtown, seconds away from 100s of tapas bars and the awaiting sangria ... of which come to think of it I've had none, shame. Saving that for later I suppose. I arrived to an Australian opening the door to the building who somehow automatically knew I spoke English and began conversing w/ me completely throwing me off and not letting me check exactly what floor my hostal was on....Needless to say, many ups & downs ... read more
