The plan was to go south to Tarragona. We had visited the city before and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, so Wendy the Navigator took on the task of finding a suitable campsite and she did this to the best of her ability. On leaving Blanes she entered the co-ordinates into the satnav and I was expecting a journey of nearly three hours. We were all astounded when the estimated journey time was a mere 20 minutes and on investigation it was discovered that Wendy had found a campsite on Tarragona Avenue in the next town 15km away. It was agreed that this was not ideal and a dramatic change of plan was required. Changing the plan dramatically brought forth very improved results. We ended up driving inland to the foothills of The Pyrenees and a small village ... read more

After our pleasant night we to our overnight stop which was going to be Desperadoes. Camping Los Desperrannos had been brilliant last week. Good plots, pleasant company but a touch expensive as ACSI rate had not kicked in. Today well it had changed and instead of over 25 euros a night we were down to a more pleasant 17. But what a difference a week makes. I want to continue singing 24 little hours but it does not quite fit. As we drove through the gate the site looked as empty as last week. It is back end of the short summer season here in Spain. The man on reception recognised me "You come back " he said . I smiled and said yes handing him our passports. He smiled at me " Your passports " ... read more

In de ... read more

Thursday was the last of our private tours in and around Madrid. This tour included a a car, a giant black Mercedes 9 passenger van, a driver and a tour guide, They picked us up at our hotel / apt and we drove South and West to the small royal town of Aranjuez. This town is in the Tagas River valley, the river that flows all the way to Lisbon. The town was dominated by the Royal residence that was build in the 18th and 19th centuries and used primarily in the springtime. The Castle was well preserved with period furnishings and artwork. The painting and frescos were quite fantastic. One room was totally covered in porcelain as if it were wallpaper. The grounds were quite beautiful as well. And lunch we had included a private ... read more

I’m going to put yesterday and today together because both entries are relatively short/I want to catch up. Yesterday we did one of the free tours of Madrid, but first things first, we had a super long convo with our buddy Miguel because he had to tell us all the important things to see in Madrid lol. He took our map and literally drew all over it, putting giant Xs on everything we had to do lol. Too adorable. We also talked about Canada and what life is like back home – and how cold it is in winter hahaha, he thought we were crazy. He talked about how he plays the violin, about what he’s doing here in Madrid (lessons and just playing on the street with some friends) and he asked about music and ... read more

The first thing that I want to say is ... OUCH! I'm not saying this to be lamented really because there are worse things that could be happening to me at this very moment. But can I just say that my calves are so freakishly sore from the incessant hill climbing of Toledo yesterday. My day started out feeling a little indecisive and therefore could not really make up my mind as to what I really wanted to do. There were still a few things that I wanted to do in Madrid itself but I was also really interested in two other places out of Madrid. I set out with the idea that I would spend the day here in Madrid and tomorrow go to San Lorenzo del Escorial and forget about Arenjuez. First thing I ... read more
