18-19 February I took a few days off between Vipassana courses to go up the coast to Cadaques and Figueres, both long time haunts of Salvador Dalí. Cadaques is a beautiful little white-washed town right on the water. It was the middle of the week and very quiet - a perfect place to relax for a few days before starting to cook for 60 people again. It was wonderful to just walk through the narrow streets, along the water, and to the neighboring little town that had a small Dalí museum. On the way back I stopped in Figueres, which has the Teatro-Museo Dalí - a huge civic museum that burned down and was restored by Dalí in a surreal manner that only he was capable of. He has so many paintings, sculptures, furniture, and ... read more

So we found another spot for the night. Not high class by any means, but by the backpackers standards, quite nice. TV, balcony and vey clean. We took full advantage of it; had dinner in our room, then hung out on the patio all night. Really fun, but made the morning a little harder. Needless to say, we were a little under the weather, but luckily we had the car as a refuge. We ... read more

On my Switzerland I made a stop in the town of Figueres near the French border. This town is a real dive with one amazing site: the Dali muesum. Designed by the artist himself it's nothing like a mueseum and is more like a Surrealist playground. There tons of surrealist objects, hidden rooms, holograms etc. There is the Mae West apartment and a car suspended by chains filled with sea uchins. ... read more
