gothic quarter
gothic quarter Got up just in time for breakfast today after getting only a few hours of sleep which seems to be the norm here. Definitely the craziest hostel I have been to so far. I was signed up to do a walking tour around the Gothic Quarter. Yeh, I know I already did one but I had planned on just wandering around this area today so I figured why not do it with a group and a guide who has an idea what's going on here. The tour was fairly similar to the last one but I really didn't mind. I was just glad to get outside and walk around the narrow alleys and have time to think to myself. We stopped by what I was told was the oldest synagogue in Europe that had only recently been discovered and unearthed. We didn't have time to go in so hopefully I can find it later and check it out.
After lunch our Portuguese guide took us to lunch at this little hole in the wall joint that had some pretty fantastic cheap food. Was good to finally sit down after walking for a few hours and ended up making beach plans
with a couple of people there which was nice. Oh I nearly forgot. They have these mini cars with 3 wheels that they rent out to tourists for fairly cheap. Our guide took us over there and we drew slips of paper to see who would get the free ride. Everyone opens it up and it is silent until the German guy Tobi, yells out "Vinner" in a strong German accent. Its hard to describe how hilarious this was ha. Anyways, those guys took the go-car(t) out later and I got the details from them. Apparently the only real rule they have is that you cannot go on the highways. So of course 5 minutes into their trip they screw up and get stuck on this huge highway with this pseudo-car that maxes out at 25 mph. All the other drivers are honking out them and giving them the finger hah. Said it was one of the scariest moments of their life.
Anyways I ended up at the beach on a pretty overcast day which was definitely not beach weather but I hadn't been yet on this trip and wanted to relax so we went anyways. I fell alseep
beach
view from the beach. bit overcast eh? five minutes after getting there and slipped in and out of consciousness for the next couple hours. Nice little siesta for me. The evening was pretty relaxed. Watched the Italy-Paraguay match with everyone and the hostel and hung out with a bunch of guys playing pool and what not till I felt like getting a real nights worth of sleep. One more day left in Barcelona.
EditorĀ“s Note: I forgot to mention that there are people all over town who head to the popular hostel spots and stand outside with 6-packs and sell beer to people as they head out for the night. Even better is that when we left the club there was this guy standing outside with a tray of sandwiches selling them for a euro a piece. I had to get one and it wasn't half bad.
2nd EditorĀ“s Note: La Rambla, the very very famous main drag here may be one of the worst places on earth. All it has is a bunch of touristy, cheesy souvenir shops, overpriced restaurants and people dressed in ridiculous ways begging for tips. Awful, hah. At night it isn't much better. Guys just hound you to come on

street art imitation of a picasso work their pub crawl. My favorite attempt to get us was to tell us that we are meeting behind Burger King in the parking lot at midnight and if you get there 15 mintues early you can slug vodka straight from a bottle. One of the sketchiest things I have ever heard haha.
