parc guell
parc guell Checked out of the Yellow Nest Hostel around noon today. The place was good to me for the two days I was there and if I knew how much I would have enjoyed it I probably would have just booked it for my whole stay here but after hearing so many good things about Kabul Hostel I had to give it a try so I headed down there after a quick stop at the train station to book my train north to Montpellier on Wednesday. Put down my stuff and headed out the door to my day tour of some of Gaudi´s impressive work.
I started by heading to Park Guell. Getting there is a pretty daunting task. The entrance is at the top of this hill which you have to climb. Some parts are so steep they just have elevators right in the middle of this pedestrian road. The views from the top make it worth the effort though. The park has all these zig-zagging paths that wind around the hill and eventually lead to the focal point which is the flat area with these beautifully tiled benches that snake around the outskirts and form a little plaza that
la sagrada familia
la sagrada familia overlooks the city. Then right below you have a bunch of crazy sculptures that Gaudi worked on.
The next stop for me was the famous La Sagrada Familia, the basilica that was started over a hundred years ago and Gaudi obsessed over for his final 43 years. They continue to work on it based on his designs with help from a bunch of different artists of all trades. They say it will be completed in 2026 but there is not a single person who believes that will happen. Now I am completely over visiting churches and all but this place is incredible. You can just gaze at the outside of it forever. It is just so intricate, the outside facade is basically supposed to be a bible told through art & architecture so there are just so many symbolic things to notice. The inside is amazing too. I particularly like the lighting. Most chuches are kind of dark and gloomy. Here it is much lighter and kind of feels uplifting. Plus, with all the different artists working here over a hundred years the church is made up of so many artistic styles. Definitely a place worth praying in, if

longest mosaic bench it ever gets finished.
Now a little about Kabul Hostel. This place is fantastic for a few reasons. One is that you get dinner for free here which is awesome. Secondly, the lounge is just a great place to hang out and meet other people. I ran into a couple of German guys I met in Sevilla which just shows you that the longer you travel the more people you will meet and the more you see again along the way. Ended up watching the Germany-Australia match with them which was a damn good time. Finally, every night they take whoever wants to come from the hostel out to a club for the night. You get free entrance which is usually around 15/20 euro and these are the best clubs the city has to offer. Tonight we headed out to a place called Roxy´s and ended up staying there till about 5am. Good times. Leaving at 5am is a pretty reasonable time around here and the place was still pretty rocking even as we left. Great day in a Barcelona which is proving to be one of the best stops of the trip.
