La Pedrera
La Pedrera- the apartment building designed by Antoni Gaudi. Thursday Sept. 11 wasa holiday throughout Catalonia. It actually celebrates the defeat of the Catalonian Army in the 1700's... but today celebrates the Catalan language and culture. Thanks to this holiday, I had a four day weekend and was able to explore more of Barcelona. On Thursday and Friday, I was a full on tourist. Two friends and myself went on Bus Turistic, a tour bus that takes you all around Barcelona and it was definitely worth it.
Thursday we saw many works by Gaudi such as La Pedrera, La Sagraga Familia, and Park Guell to name a few. Park Guell was magnificent! I fell in love with art of it. The tile work was amazing and it of course has Gaudi's signature all over it. La Sagrada Familia is a gem that is yet to be finished but is still incredible. You can't miss it! Words really cannot describe it. It has yet to be finished as all it is being built with only donations and admission tickets.
The second day was spent mostly at Park Montjuic which also had its sights. We walked around the Olympic Stadium and several museums, but my highlight of the day was
La Sagrada Familia
La Sagraga Familia, another Gaudi masterpiece that has yet to be finished... but just look at it! taking the Teleferic up to the fort at the top of Montjuic, which overlooked Barcelona. It was nothing but amazing, seeing everything from La Sagrada Familia to Tibidabo, to the outrageous shipping port.
Those were two days well spent as I got more of an oversight about this city that I am now calling home.
