Not too much to report as our holiday starts to wind down. Thursday evening we ate at the Culinarium restaurant again and was looking forward to another enjoyable meal, we had carpaccio, tuna steak followed by veal. Again beautifully presented small haute cuisine type courses, but I didn't take the dessert as I wasn't feeling 100%. We both ate the same but something obviously didn't agree with me resulting in my staying in bed the next day with an upset tummy. We didn't make it to meet our friends for lunch on Friday which was a shame as we were looking forward to seeing them and revisiting Costa Adeji just along the coast from Los Cristianos. Saturday took things easy, the temperature has been over 30 degrees so it was sitting in the shade for us ... read more

More Strolling! We got up quite early but weren’t feeling hungry so just enjoyed some coffee & fruit on the balcony. The tide was way out this morning and we could see several locals looking for crabs in the rock pools. Aqua gym session not on today so time for another stroll - a bit further today, all the way to the harbour. As I walked along the promenade several people passed by, joggers taking their morning exercise, dog walkers (actual running) & the mobility scooters that ply the promenade all day long, some single occupancy and just a few tandem versions! The promenade is a mix of tiles, plain & patterned slabs and boardwalk. Passing all the cafes and seaside gift stalls the promenade eventually sprawled out overlooking a wide sandy beach. I was a ... read more

Another short stroll from the hotel. It's a little bit cloudy today (Tuesday) so an ideal time for another little stroll. There really is nothing much to see to the left of our hotel but it passes the time! Directly on the pebble beach there is a shack type abode looking quite derelict with a small fishing boat outside, I wonder who lives in a house like this? There is a man standing on the rocks with a fishing line so maybe the house is his, I will just have to wonder! The black volcanic rocks are all shapes and sizes, some worn smooth from the pounding of the waves, other quite rugged in texture. One was flat enough to rest my camera for a selfie. The ground underfoot was just a bit too rough for ... read more

As we don't plan much sightseeing this holiday I'll create today's excursion in two halves - BEFORE & AFTER LUNCH. Our day trip to the Northern part of Tenerife. We were picked up at hotel this morning by a driver of an 8 seater vehicle. Just one other person collected from another hotel. A short ride to a collection point where we transferred to another vehicle and were joined by a couple from Cowes on the Isle of Wight. The lady was in a battery operated wheelchair so it meant just 4 of us in the vehicle which was great. We formed part of a convoy of 4 people carriers - Irvin (from Holland but had lived on the island for 13 years) was our driver and Colin (From Scotland) was the tour guide who gave ... read more

WE CONTINUE TO ENJOY THE SCENIC ROUTE WITHIN ANAGA NATIONAL PARK. Taganana is a little hamlet inside Anaga National Park. It is surrounded by beaches and rock formations rising out of the sea & this was our stop for lunch. En route we passed Taganana beach with large waves making it a paradise for surfers. Our restaurant location was overlooking the rocky beach with waves crashing into the rocks which were once part of the coastline. Lunch consisted of home made vegetable soup, a delicious fillet of local fish (or pork chop) with canarian potatoes & salad, followed by a local egg custard tart. Plenty of water & red wine - good company and nicely served food. So all good before moving on again. This time to a sandy beach area, popular with the locals especially ... read more

Thursday was Valentine day and the entrance to the main restaurant was decorated with plenty of red balloons. As we entered for our evening meal all the ladies were presented with a beautiful red rose and a complimentary glass of champagne was offered to all guests. It always amazes us that after a busy day of 'doing nothing' that we feel quite tired so it was another early night after an enjoyable meal followed by a nightcap with easy listening music in the bar. Friday, we woke early and opened the curtains to find that the skies were quite grey, the wind was pretty strong too, but it didn't take long for the sun to come out although the wind continued to blow for most of the day. Usually by 9am there are a few people ... read more

This is one of our 'Fly 'n' Flop holidays so we will be busy doing nothing but I'm sure I'll find something to share during our two weeks on the island of Tenerife. We have been to Tenerife many times over the years and with just over 4 hours flight time it is an ideal place to find some winter sunshine. Flying from our local airport, Stansted, is always a bonus but we still had an early start as our flight was departing at 8am. No queues at check-in and security queues were not too bad considering the numbers travelling at that time of the day either for business or pleasure. Flight took off of on time and we landed in Tenerife at 12.25 to blue skies and 26 degrees! Since our last visit they have ... read more

Our flight home departs at 7.00am this morning, so we were out of the hotel and into the airport at about 4.30am. The bags have already been checked in so it was just us and the hand luggage to worry about. The flight home was uneventful. We arrived home with lots of memories, but glad to be back in familiar territory. We have been away 33 days and every one of them has been different.... read more

But suppose you are only taking a short break on the island, what would be the best way of spending time there? After you have got settled into the hotel or holiday accommodation you are staying in, it is time to explore the island, and you will want to see its best places. One of the unmissable attractions is Tenerife’s highest mountain. Day 12 Today’s port is Santa Cruz in Tenerife (Canary Islands). Our tour is called “The best of Tenerife” The coach was the first one out and with a full load. The MAN coach was 40 feet long with 52 seats. I now have a true appreciation for DeNure Tours luxury coaches and emphasis on leg room. This coach is meant for tiny people. Spanish law states that you must have your seat belts on. It didn’t matter much to me because I was wedged in so tight that if there was an accident they were going to have to use the jaws of life to get me out. Driving along the coast, the tour guide, Laura was a full length movie that was talking constantly about flora, fauna, history, language and economics. Our first stop ... read more
