Semana Grande - BIG WEEK 8th August till 16th August

This is now my favorite place in the world!

After the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona I followed Giuliano Giacovazzi (our hostel, Hostival owner) advice and headed off to San Sebastian for that towns festival...Semana Grande, which means "Big Week".

Even from the bus coming into town I knew I was going to looove this place and it was just as Giuliano described it...heavenly!

San Sebastian is a stylish city located on the Basque coast of north west Spain just 20km from the French border. It has long been an attractive resort for the wealthy who escape the overpowering heat of the interior during the summer months and as a result property prices in San Sebastian remain amongst the highest in the country.

The city spreads around the famous La Concha beach which is packed in July and August with a huge number of visitors. The other beaches of Playa de Ondarreta to the west and Playa de la Zurriola to the east are also popular and attract a lot of surfers looking to ride the Atlantic waves.

Truth be told, I didn't do

Hostival was based in a gym ;0) soo much fun!
much surfing or anything either then partying every night and I completely blame Hostival!
From the moment I arrived at the hostel (almost on the beach) I was introduced to the rest at the hostel. It was like a big family as we would do everything together from beginning to end!
I felt like I was traveling with 30 of my closest friend with a really cool tour guide (Giuliano Giacovazzi) who know the best places to go and eat...in fact we hardy paid for drinks as Giuliano knew all the bar owners who kept giving us free rounds as we were rowdy and attracting others into their bars!

One night we had a Pintxo (basque for tapas) tour lead by Giuliano's crazy local friend and again we paid very little and eat the most amazing food at the best bars. Ended up drinking soo much cider and the night only started there!

The next day the Hostival crew took us on a boat trip to an island where we had a BBQ or as they called it BRAAI (South African word)...in the evening we went to a traditional cider house in the mountains. The meat was amazing, the cider kept flowing and we all had such an amazing time.

The festival itself was great fun as we would start off every night on the beach watching the fire works and then went off to various squares to watch free concerts int he streets which naturally lead to bar hopping...soo much fun!

With out a doubt this was the high light of my euro-trip...even better then Stockholm and the Running of the Bulls and this was 100% because of Hostival as they befriended me and made sure I was part of it all.
The hostel itself is quite fun and unique as it is actually based in a fully functional gym which means you have an indoor pool, basketball court, pilate classes and the list goes on! The guys even run a surf school at a fraction of the price that the other schools were charging.
I would definitely recommend Hostival to anyone as the guys running this unique hostel is soo much fun and just automatically become your new best friend!

Thank you Hostival
