First, to clarify: Boulevard (self explanatory), Strada (Street), Calea (Way), Piata (Square)... Sunday, November 30 was election day. Monday, December 1, was a national holiday celebrating 90 years since Romania united its provinces (more or less). This is why there are a lot of flags out and about. The state of Iuliu Maniu is found in the Piata Revolutei. Maniu was a politician who opposed Communism and died in prison.

Or, Revolution Square, is filled with a wall of the names of people who were killed trying to fight against Communism. As you can see, fresh flower wreaths were put by the memorial to honor them on the National Day.

The Atheneum

The Atheneum, which was a concert hall built at the turn of the century, is a beautiful concerthall. It is red plush on the inside and there is an interesting mural inside with the history of Romania. It was said funding ran out half way and each resident of Bucuresti contributed 1 Leu (equiv. one penny) to help finish building it. It was very foggy outside.

Another church I will have to go look up. I wanted to show how small and isolated it looked compared to the aparment blocks on each side. You will constantly find a small church surrounded by aparment blocks that tower over it.

I will have to look this up. I know it was past the Piata Revolutiei. I think it is likely it is some mansion that managed to escape the buldozers.

George Enescu is a famous Romanian composer. The museum is housed in Cantacuzino Palace, which is very art nouveau.
