Champagne & Strawberries
a toast ... starting off right!LISBON...SO BEAUTIFUL. so here we are in LISBON, PORTUGAL. Absolutely gorgeous! A week into the trip and it still does not feel like we are really BACKPACKING yet. We strated in London with champange for a toast and moved to Bordeux with wine tastings, great food and a wonderful day tour of vinyards and chateauxs where we were the only ones under 30. Now in Lisbon where we stayed with a family friend of Karla's. We stayed in a nice appartment, ate great home cooked food by Antonio Carlos, and had a tour by him of Lisbon and the surrounding area. So, so far it has been great.
This trip so far has been filled with experiences that have been somewhat shocking becasue they're so different than what we are used to back home, for example you are allowed to smoke on all trains, and the train we took from st sebastien to lisbon was an old style compartment train right out of a oldschool movie it was cool. It was an overnight train that lasted around 13 hrs. needless to say it wasnt the bmost comfortable sleep but we managed. Fall asleep in one country and wake up in another
... i can get used to this! hahah
Arriving to Lisbon was great. The city is so amazing little streets lined with restaurants with authentic portugues cusine, fresh fish, meat etc.. (we had pizza..). We walked around the city all day in the hot sun. it was beautiful. There are many tourists in downtown Lisbon as well as ALOT of Brazilians! With the World Cup going on you can buy Portugues (and BRASIL) jerseys anywhere!
On Saturday Antonio Carlos took us out for a tour of all around the suroundings of Lisbon.. beautiful little towns built high up in the hills with little winding roads through them, lined with huge Palace homes over looking the valleys and topping it all gigantic old castelo pertched on the highest mountain (which we could see out the window of the appartment as well). we walked around and ate local sweets which were so good. it was an amazing time.
On Saturday night Antonio Carlos' daughter Taina took us to the beach where her and her friends camp every weekend. we partied up huge on the beach with her and all her friends .. it was MESSY!haha.. everyone had a great time and Ian's
SAN SEBASTIEN
Us at the beach when we arrived in San Sebastien. portugues sounded better than ever! hahaha Then on sunday played football (soccer) on the beach. It was too bad that the weather wasn't perfect .. but thats alright .. WE'RE IN PORTUGAL! At night.. everyone went to the bar to watch portugal beat the netherlands (world cup) what a bunch of crazy portugues football fans. it was AMAZING! and now writing this we have just arrived in PORTO in the north of portugal where we are spending then next two days.

Looks like you guys are having a great time. Keep the photos coming they are excellent. I know the feeling of trying to sleep in an airport, I went through the same thing in Stansted a few weeks ago! I'm sure you've recovered by now. Enjoy Porto!
