So on the request....food. For breakfast both in Spain and Portugal was a buffet. There were different kinds of cured meats....ham, and sausages. Much like on an antipasta platter. There was tons of bread with olive oil and garlic. There are pastries...croissants, prifitoroles (thought of you Vanessa). So much fresh fruit, eggs, great bacon! For dinner I stop at cafes. One night I had a great tuna empanada. Then there was a tosta with serrano ham and olive oil with a tomato type paste. That was so good. The meats are really good here. I had paella the one night. I didn´t have a seafood one because it had mussels and squid in it...no good. I had a really nice veggie one. Last night I ate a great meal! I had a fresh mozzarella app with ... read more

Hey all! I made it safely to Faro. It was a boring day of travel. Waiting in the train station, on the train, cab to the bus station, waiting at the bus station and then on the bus. I got here just fine. Lots of time to sit. It wasn´t very conducive to napping though. I wrote in my travel journal and that was about it. I checked in at Faro, have a great room, it overlooks the sea...or whatever it is. Its called a seaview room! Needed a shower. You know how travel is...sometimes you just need to relax. I then took off for about 2 hours walking around the town. It is very cute. I definately like it. There are lots of old buildings, etc. Dad would like all the Christmas directions. There are ... read more

We have been Portugal for the past few days working and it has been a great experience. We stayed in Lisbon on Monday night and met a friend, Eliza, for dinner and drinks. The next day we met with one of our business associates, Jorge, and drove to the southern most area in Portugal called Algarve. The city we stayed in was called Faro and because the summer season was over the area was pretty empty. It is unbelievable the mass amounts of seafood consumed here…For lunch I had some large shrimp…It gave a new meaning to “peel and eat”, because the entire body of the shrimp was still intact…They were staring at me as if to say, “Don’t eat me”…I was trying not to gag but ended up really enjoying the little creatures…After lunch we ... read more

Portugal has been great - very relaxing. We decided not to go to Lisbon but instead spend our time in the Algarve, an area on the southern coast. It is quite beautiful. English is much more common here than in Spain. We found most places we did not have any difficulty with the language. We stayed in the city of Faro. This is where the airport is that we fly out of tonight. Thursday was a nice relaxing day. We spent the afternoon at the beach which is about 6km away, easily accessible by bus. The beach was great, however, I felt the water was about 15 degrees colder than I would have liked. Sherrie thought it was great, not cold at all. Yesterday (Friday) was very exciting. We headed by train to the town of ... read more

On Wednesday there was the workshop of the teacher Eccli. Everyone had their own Portuguese partner and they had to taste Italian typical foods. At the same time we were taking photos or note down the expression on their face. After the workshop there was a conversation; looking for a new identity with the architect Lago Monte Pedago. From 12:00 to 13:00 we had to return to school , but before we ate in a restaurant, after which we took the train and we went to Tavira. We stayed there form 14.27 until 17.11. We saw the cultural archeology of Tavira. The best part of the day was when we could do what we wanted. Towards evening we met at the municipal museum of Faro. The topic of the meeting was: - Construction of a new ... read more

Meeting at 11, in Zuffo area, all happy to say good-bye to parents from the coach window... At last we started for this adventure, far away from Italy for 13 days!!! On the road for Milan-Malpensa, we laughed and joked, we listened to music and we had fun. When we arrived at the airport, for someone the anxiety started to grow; we waited still a bit of time before doing the check-in and later walked in the airport-shopping centre or to see the airstrip. Finally we got aboard the plane and in the take-off, someone held the arm of the fellow traveller and someone was quiet, but during the flight, nobody was scared. The landing didn't have problems, we got off the plane and went to collect our luggage, luckily there were all!!! 30 minutes later ... read more

Geo: 37.2453, -8.19743Late this afternoon the bus reached Portugal and an hour later arrived in Faro. My first impression of Faro, was that it had a Naples feel to it. I was really hoping that I was wrong. Found my hotel, unfortunately I couldn't find a hostel on the Internet in Faro, so I have to stay in a hotel, oh well. Went for a walk around the town. Its a fishing village, with old city walls, many plaza's and old churches. The best thing about Faro, the nearby airport where the budget airlines land and take off. After checking in and checking out the room (best thing would be the double bed to starfish on and the fan to keep me cool), I went for a wander around town. I was wrong about the Naples feel, ... read more

On the bus from Seville to Faro, Jenny turned to me and said, "Sudie - why are we going to Faro?" "I don't know," I said. "Emily read a travelblog about it." Thus we ended up in Faro. Quite frankly, I'm still not sure why we made such a stop. The town was nice, yes . . . and it had a beach . . . about 20 minutes by bus from our hostel. But really there was nothing special about Faro. I guess I need to track down this travelblog Emily read and see what sounded so tempting. There is one thing that made Faro absolutely, 100 percent, hands-down worth the one night stop. Apparently there had been some sort of national band competition at the same time we were there. I have no ... read more

4/14/07 Seville--Faro We caught a bus to Faro that left at about 3:00pm (that way we could have a little more time in Seville). We ended up sitting next to this group of Australian guys. Pete (the one that I sat next to) had been to Morocco about the same time that Sudie and I were there so we talked about that, and he showed me videos of last nights bull fight (they killed 6 of them—I’m really glad I didn’t go). When we got to Faro, we all said goodbye (they were going on to Lagos) and then we set off in search of our hostel. The majority of hostel directions thus far were terrible, and these were no exception. We ended up walking around for ever until we finally found it. After putting our ... read more

Well, I surprised Camille with a trip to Faro, Portugal, with the intentions of sitting on a different beach for a couple days. I normally sit on the beach in Alicante, so a change of pace and the opportunity to reunite with my ocean of the last 22 years, the Atlantic was irresistible. She was a bit cold, but I didn’t mind. I just hope she doesn’t find out that I’ve been cheating on her with the Mediterranean for the last three months. Anyway we to Madrid the night before on the 14th of March, almost a four hour train ride, but it wasn’t too bad. We arrived in Madrid just before midnight and had to find a place to stay along with carry around Camille’s suitcase (I had a backpack). After a couple failed ... read more
