Krakow
View from the hostel After the night on the streets in Slovakia we got our tickets to Krakow for midday and then went for a Mcdonalds at 7am. They don't do breakfasts over here so i had to have 2 x cheeseburgers and chips. Eating this so early in the morn + no sleep forced me to have a nap on a park bench for a bit. After accidently buying sparkling water 3 times at the station we finally left Kocise and Slovakia after our train got delayed for a bit. It was only by 10minutes but that seemed an age. I hardly slept on the train even though it was a 6 hour journey. The Polish hills looked amazing though, best scenes from a train window so far!
We arrived in Krakow in the early evening at what seemed like Lakeside! We were in the middle of a shopping centre but were so tired we didn't bother with our usual routine of finding out about trains for our next trip, we just grabbed a taxi. After Slovakia we decided to plan ahead and booked in at a hostel although it meant we'd be in a dorm of 18 beds.
The next morning
we wandered the main square properly as couldn't be bothered the night before. It's a really lively place and the nightlife sounded good from my bed when i was trying to sleep the night before. there are loads of hidden bars etc down alleyways that seem to go nowhere but end up underground. We found one of these and i had traditional Polish soup for dinner. It was really nice but i've no idea what was in it. Only complaint so far is there are too many english people!! They are everywhere and after a while its kind of like being back home. Plenty of stag do's with guys arguing the rules for their drinking games.
On Saturday 13th September me and Adelle decided to go on a tour of Auschwitz and the death camps. I knew all the history anyway but it was still an insightful tour. The only shame was it did feel too touristy, i wanted to be able to get an idea of the conditions these people had to endure but a lot of it was made very public friendly. Did find out though that all the camps were converted into museums only 2 years
after they were closed down, which i thought was a bit sick really. That afternoon i went wandering on my own and loved being in a foreign place where nobody could understand me. Also booked our tickets to L'viv in Ukraine the next day.
After that, being a saturday i couldn't resist finding an irish bar, and watching football all day. I saw Liverpool beat Man United and made friends with a Middlesbrough fan and returned later to watch Chelsea play. Drinking all afternoon left me rather drunk so i went back to the hostel for a bit where we had planned to wander out again later. Then we met some people from Singapore who have now provided us with loads of things to try and eat when we get there. They are heading to London so in return i had to break the news that they probably wouldn't get to see snow this Christmas.
By now it was getting late and Nancy discovered that her rucksack had been stolen. Her whole rucksack. Luckily all paperwork etc was seperate but she lost all her clothes except for the few she'd just washed. The staff at the hostel were not very helpful, they just seemed more keen on defending themselves when all we wanted to do was check all the other dorms. In the end we gave up, wandered the streets briefly on the off chance some guy had realised he'd nicked a bag full of womens clothes then went to the police station to report it. They couldn't help tonight so Nance would have to go back in the morning + try and find time to buy new stuff at the station before our train at 1.20.

that's unfortunate about nancy's rucksack.
